A friend of mine had his 7970m die in his R4 and has since bought a m290x to replace it but he's wondering if its plug in play? does he need any modified drivers? I helped him plug it in but windows is freezing.

So you got the GPU installed? Windows is freezing etc? Also I'm not sure if it is plug n play because although they are exactly the same cards I'm not sure without .inf mods if it will install correctly.

The GPU shows in the bios but it doesn't show anything in device manager, it also is freezing when trying to install any AMD drivers. Any advice on how to get it to work?

My tip would be to use Display Driver Uninstaller and uninstall/clean all traces of previous Intel and AMD drivers... You can do this just once when your in safe mode (no need to restart twice).. Go to intel website, get latest drivers for HD4000, install and restart.. Then install AMD drivers.. You shouldn't need to mod the drivers hopefully... I think the freezing is due to corrupt remains of previous drivers...

uninstall all intel and AMD display drivers, reboot with SG mode (intel + AMD graphics), and install amd graphics FIRST, then intel. use latest 15.3 beta for AMD, and latest intel for hd 4000
