Attempting to see if this boots with a NON-eDP monitor...and...

Just now need to modify a driver and see if it shows up... I think we can see it here in 3D Videocontroller.

for the record here is the card :

So unsure if Optimus would NOT work with this card, but I have to slightly modify this heatsink to really test it, I have not yet done so. However, normally a VGA shows up in the display adapters this one showed up in other devices.

    Anyone have similiar experience ?

I've concluded there is no analogue GA adapter and there fore no basic MS adapter shows up, meaning if you are not on the HD Intel and using a LVDS it will not detect a boot loader for a screen, unless you have HDMI or mini-DP and I'm willing to bet mainly the mini-DP and not the HDMI.. cause it's HDMI 1.3 I think.

So if you load into the laptop in dedicated mode, there is no handshake to a screen internally without the eDP connection to the 120Hz monitor or mini-DP connection.

I've tested this before with a workstation card that followed the same rules a year ago. The laptop remains blank until the driver is loaded when you get into windows. Then, once the driver is loaded, it actually should be able to power the monitor, however, you wouldn't get to install the driver in dedicated mode without somehow being able to see what your doing...

so catch 22... now with a eDP cable and 120Hz screen, you will be fine in dedicated model. It would be the same as when you had to install a Maxwell card when you had a 120Hz screen.

If you have a spare I would be happy to test in M18x R1/R2

So to summarize - it works on LVDS only notebooks only in Optimus mode?

If I had to guess, that would be it. However, I didn't even attempt to install the driver yet, just busy doing a million things, but I noticed the card didn't show up where I had expected it to, under devices in the device manager. It should have been with display adapters, but was instead with "other" hardware. This shows it has no loader for sure.It doesn;t even recognise as a VGA without the driver. I do not know how it would react with the HD Intel chipset.

Time will tell. I've had few cards recognized in the same way, altho in desktop machines where Intel Quicksync was a must. Once drivers were installed it worked normally. Would you care to speculate on price? :)

For the love of God please get this working and take notes. Those of us with M18x R2 and above have fingers crossed.

My brother has the AW17 with 120hz display and 780m. This will be plug n' play?

If you need anything tested let me know. And if this will be going on sale also let me know.

Oh **** haha, I didn't know I had people waiting for this, I kind of put it to the back burner as I was preoccupied doing other things. I had it working, modified driver installs is what I should rather say. I was in the middle of replacing my screen, and it worked with an external monitor, I think the 1060 works with all laptops with LCDS and eDP. I originally thought it was NOT going to work.
I will have to test this, my AW17 is being upgraded, but I didn't conclusively test the analogue screen, but I heard someone else had it working, but no verification. Give me a few days and I will test it again, things usually slower for me after the 1st of the month (though this is Xmas season so who knows..)

plug and play NO ! Modified driver after disabling DSE, YES !

So this WILL work for you , that I have tested, thats not questioned anymore. You can buy this card if you like, if you want to purchase it from me, you can too, but this is not a sales thread, so just send me a PM if you like, or ask a moderator where you can purchase from, there are other vendors around too.

My only caution is installation with the heatsink. You will need to modify the heatsink slightly or be very careful how you apply thermal pads and will need to shim everything upwards to become level.

If you do neither, you will need the heatsink for the AMD cards that does not have that ridge/gap in the middle of the two coils for the 780M/880M's. Sometimes people with a 980M installed using these, but did so VERY carefully so that it didn;t touch the coil and would become level...

I can also trade you a modified heatsink for yours, if needed, to make it fit the 1060 perfectly.

Just send me a PM I will give you a quote if needed. I plan to edit this thread to make it a support thread for the card, just haven't gotten to it... so much to do...

But is it fully stable? I talked to Eurocom support and they said, while the card fits and works: it has issues where the computer will randomly crash. Have you had this issue?

Also if you PM exactly how I would need to modify the 780M heatsink, I may see if it's not too much of a hassle for me.

Yes, I actually did have this issue, but it was not conclusive as to why, for instance - I don't know if it's the card that caused it.

Now if it is the card that is causing it, very curious, because I left the card in there for a while, not loaded with a driver, because I was busy, and I do know the laptop just shutdown instantly - like no power. I had thought maybe my contact on the 1060 was not perfect and it might have thermally shut down, which is something it does to save the components any damage. It happened about 20 minutes in for me. I never tried to repeat it. I was going to fix the heatsink to eliminate it as the suspect. I didn't hear about any shutting down thing from anyone, so I didn;t know what else to make of it. I usually very very cautious, so I wouldn't attempt it again until I made sure everything was 100%. Though the laptop is in perfect condition, and so was the card, which went through light testing afterwards. My equipment at home is also behind a very good UPS with a good sine wave generator and my power bars are some serious work too, usually systems in my house are MORE stable then in real work practice because of this.

    LVDS**

I do not think it works properly on 60Hz. The latest HD Intel doesn't seem to install for poeple on the AW17 even though it supports the CPU, so no support through Optimus.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, and i in the future this changes - don't rely on this as solid evidence or advice. Things do change.

Anyways, what i advise people is to use a 120Hz screen/3D screen AW17. Then it works great.
