Had to reinstall everything (windows 7) awhile back and been trying to get my card reader to work again. Installed the Ricoh Media Card Reader Driver but still nothing. I cannot seem to find this driver on the Dell website for some reason. Normally Driver Genius fixes this for me, but the server which holds the driver has been down for weeks. I get a timeout error for this driver with Driver Genius.
Any ideas? Links to drivers?
I've searched the forums, but the links I found are no good.

Um, the R3's card reader is a realtek brand. Here is the driver page for it. Driver Details | Dell United States. Try this driver package and see if the reader starts responding.

^^^ That should fix that issue for ya!!

Installed those drivers (thanks for the link). Still nothing. I also removed the windows installed drivers before hand. When I insert a card nothing happens. Rebooted also, just to make sure.

strange, you think it may have come disconnected by accident or something?
-
That's a possibility actually. Hadn't considered that... I did recently installed another hard drive. I bet that's the problem. Thanks!

Thats not the problem... It's connected, well it helped a little. Now I hear it when I put in a card, but then I here the... error sound(?) shortly after. So it's working, just not properly.

You're sure you have both cables connected properly? Double check. There's a black cable with a white connector which deals with the USB, eSATAp and (IIRC) a flat ribbon cable with deals with the HDMI in, memory card reader and express card slots. Make sure the black cable is grounded, it has a single wire with an eyelet that is supposed to be held down by a screw to the sister board. And make certain the ribbon cable is in all the way and not crooked. I've been burned that way before with my card reader not working because the ribbon cable was not connected properly. Barring a cable failure, you could also not be inserting the memory card into the reader correctly so the contacts don't line up (something I am VERY guilty of often) or the card reader itself has gone bad.

I have same problem, although with Windows 8 so I thought it is probably driver issue. Using external card reader now which is quite annoying.

Do you see any exclamation marks on the device manager? Or any errors reported when the SD card is inserted? Have you tried with several SD cards? -
Well I've checked all my cords, everything is in place and secure. Still the same issue. I have installed the suggested drivers and still have an issue. When I insert an SD card I hear the sound like it connected, then I hear the low murmer version of that, best way to explain the sound - it's the error sound. I see no Iconman.exe running in the task manager. Only exclamation mark in the device manager is the ethernet card, which I never use anyway.
-
The card reader might be faulty then. You've tried just about everything else. Barring a major software failure, which would warrant a clean install, the card reader might have just gone bad.
-
If it isn't there check your anti-virus for quarantined items, it could be detected as a false positive.
