I just got my mx17r3 and so far i am lovin it.

first off my computer is plugged in and my power options is set to max performance.

    1. I opened up CPU-z and so far it only cranks up to 2.2ghz when actually being used (which is fine by me as long as it scales up) tho how can i get to to stay at 2.2ghz or what ever my max is.

    2. Also ram it say's it running at 664.6mhz and that does not move up to +1300mhz how can i get this to move up and stay up?

    3. I was kinda expecting a hard drive panel on the underside of the laptop but i don't see one unless i'm blind. how easy is it to add a second Drive and will it void my warranty?

    Thanks in advance :)

    1. If you want higher than 2.2 u must overclock in bios. There's a guide in forum already, just search for m17x r3 overlocking guide
    2. 664.4 is for one slot. You have 2 RAM sticks so double it, u'll get 1333
    3. U should look at the manuals. Everything is in there.

Sorry I am typing on phone so i cannot quote the links here for u :(

i have 4 ram sticks i upgraded to 8gb at 1333 but shouldnt each chip be running at 1333? if not cause 4 chips at 664*4 is 24??mhz that kinda weird.

I dont want to overclock i just want it to run at 2.2ghz all the time instead of throttling down.

OK i see how to remove the bottom plate and as long as i don't touch any thing else my warranty should be fine. Just the ram thing kinda bugs me tho

Modern motherboards normally support dual or tri channel memory.

I think the M17X R3 supports dual channel meaning that 1 stick on its own will run at 664. 2 Sticks will run at 1333. 4 Sticks will run at 1333.

Keep in mind that if you have the 2630qm, you're limited at 1333, right?

Oh weird. I was just expecting each one to run at 1333 guess not. At least this is normal. As for getting the processor to run at 2.2 instead of throttling down how can u do that?

the 2630 can run ram at 1600mhz if the ram supports Extreme memory profile XMP

The processor will scale it's speed due to intel speed step. putting around the desktop, web browsing will only show 800 mgz speed or so, the lowest speed step multiplier. The memory is ddr memory, dual data rate, mem clock x2 =1333 mhz.

Just on alienware website when I bought the laptop it said 1330mhz memory but I guess the 664x2 is 1330 or so. I was thinking each chip would be the 1330mhz. But what ever
