To my understanding
-Computer wrapped in their cloth (which actually isn't as cheap quality as I thought)
-Sealed pack of various manuals / warnings
-Windows disk
-Resource Disk
-Hat
-AW Mousepad
-Power cable, powerbrick
-3.5mm to TOSLINK Adapter
I think thats it, I'd have to re-check to be 100% sure though.
Batboy: Good suggestion![]()

What hat?-
-
A black hat with the alien logo. And the cloth the computer comes wrapped in is higher quality than I thought it'd be as well. I put it in my backpack wrapped in it.
-
Also, this list pertains to all configurations of the R3, right? Not just the 3D bundles, right?
Thx for making all this possible! -
what is this for -3.5mm to TOSLINK Adapter?
-
Mine was in the very bottom of the accessory box and not even in a bag. You should have it
Picture can be found here.
-
Don't forget to mention the AlienHead sticker.
-
and the sticker also Batboy LOL -
That appearance of prying of the back cover near the battery is on mine as well. I think it is a manufacturing side effect and not a defect. I saw it in my original R3 from 1/25 delivery as well.

MY m17x R3 was ordered on the 1st of march and on dell website it said the shipping time was to be expected around the 31 of march.
Today I received an email saying it was shipped.
Now I am scared to receive itHow do I check what chipset is inside mine? I want to make sure it's not the B2.
-
thats everything i got and also the 3d glasses with the usb charger. i went to dell.com and downloaded powerdvd 9 3d and will burn it to a disc soon. -

this thread is like yelling fire in a crowded movie theater. Stop worrying. Dell is not sending out b2 chips. If they were and you found out 5 years from now because your sata ports stopped working, you'd have a great case for Dell to give you a new computer. So stop worrying... -
Dell could probably be trying to save a tad on packaging materials. This I really don't care if some of the savings is past on to the customers. A screen protector really isn't needed IMO when it ships out if the laptop is closed and in a sleeve.
Just because it's new doesn't mean it hasn't been untouched by a human being.
If there is a scratch on the lid, or casing then that's where I draw the line. But if the fingerprint smudges can be removed by just wiping it off, what in the world is the big deal? -
Well I am not worried about smudges but there shouldn't be any.
If you buy a new ipad ,iphone or other pieces of hardware you will not find finger prints since they use gloves when packaging.
Moral of the story is that people expect perfection from a top of the line laptop. -
Thx OP for updating the OP
Very useful for people who are still waiting or will make a purchase in the future. Maybe you can add a brief sentence about how the screen may or may not have a plastic screen protector thingy on it?
Thx! -
I give you an example....... few months back I purchased a brand new car. It cost me an arm and a leg and I always dreamed of owning one and finally I bought it.
The day I went to pick it up I noticed that it wasn't detailed very well and the interior was not cleaned properly. At the time I didn't say anything since I was extremely excited and ready to go drive.
Once I got home I started to clean it up and when I removed the front carpets at the passenger side I noticed mud and small rocks under the carpet. I snapped.
I called my sales rep and asked him how can you deliver a 140K car to a customer with mud under the passenger carpet?
Now you might think I am a jerk but why should I take crap from lazy people?
This is an expensive car there is no excuse for me to find mud in it. If I was the owner of that dealership I would fire the person that cleaned the car and the sales rep for not checking the car before delivering it to a paying customer.
I do understand that people have problems making ends meet and they have childrens etc..... But you have a simple job and you should do it well or just stay home for the day.
Some people said they were missing screws on the laptops? My god that is beyond words unacceptable. I would be furious if my laptop was missing a few screws and it would go right back for a full refund.
If I was Michael Dell I would sit by this workers making sure they apply thermal grease properly
I am buying a gaming laptop why should I be the one opening it up and reapplying thermal grease on it to lower my cpu and gpu temp? What am I paying them for?
It takes literary 2 minutes to apply thermal grease on a cpu and for a billion dollar company like Dell why not use some good quality compound?
The 3300$ I spent on my laptop doesn't cover some good quality compound? I am not bashing Dell alone since this behaviour is an epidemic nowadays. -

Because of your post, I'm actually gonna take back my question on repasting, in the repaste thread. Just need to know what temps to look out for. If it gets too hot, this thing is going right back, cuz you're completely right about how we the consumer shouldnt be doing this kinda stuff. They should assume that we're all regular people who don't know nuttin about opening up computers n thingmajigs.

I didn't wonder if my was new or old, but I did notice, that when the lid is closed, it doesn't exactly line up with the base. It matches up at the back, and progressively becomes more skewed toward the front by about the thickness of the shell. I know this might be me being picky when the machine is completely fine, but c'mon! Anyone else have this problem? When my laptop is closed, it really bugs me to see the lid obviously not aligned with the base.
-
Not sure, but almost every post I read almost makes me doubt that this is a "premium" line. -
-
On a more related note, for those of you who did not catch this post made by my boi X3NIA, http://forum.notebookreview.com/7251070-post2.html, keep in mind that it's still gonna say B2, but you gotta look for 09 rather than 04. That will at least ensure you that you got a revised mobo.

I had none of the issues posted (knocks on wood repeatedly) here, everything was taped and sealed as it should be, R3 runs like a champ.
It is true of almost all customer service type forums...majority of posts are from people with complaints, not those with great things to say. -
I guess my post didn't go through. Ugh!
My question was if anyone else's lid is skewed and doesn't line up with the base. -
Build process is as follows...
Major components are installed in factory overseas. no ram, cpu, video card, hard drive or other "Custom" options are installed. The item is shipped to dell, at that point dell installs the custom options, images the drives, and does a "burn in". It is not assembled in china with YOUR specs... -
-
There are no assembly plants in the US. These were closed long ago. If you guys want to discuss location of assembly, due it either in the main AW forum or here: Dell Laptop Forums - Dell Notebook Computer Discussions
-
Then again, I once heard that the only ones to come and post stuff on forums are usually the ones who have complaints. Thus, there could be thousands of others who own it trouble-free (the ones who don't post lolz). Wonder how true this is...hmmmmmmmmmm
Anyway, any other tips for checking to see if the laptop is brand spankin new? -
My runs like a champ but could not accept the scratch on the back cover ,that was the ultimate so i called Alienware today. Was transferred 3 times until i reached the Aafes dell agent. Set up a replacement in 10 minutes and i can keep this one until the new arrives. What a great service but again,i should not be here in the first place!!!
-
The rattling and a link in the speaker mesh is broken like it was a manufacturer defect.. I think I'll keep this though because I've already re-pasted it and don't feel like wiping everything and all that (I can't just change HDDs.. Raid0 and all). Besides, it isn't THAT bad.. I'd rather not risk it with another system.
Making sure my r3 is NEW?
