    Hey all,

When I play Max Payne (Steam Version) It loads to the settings screen and will only show the intel integrated graphics and therefore not load the game.

How I get it to see the GTX 580?

    Thanks!

no mate it is!! I'm talking about the original and 2!! They actually come free with Max Payne 3 pre-order...

My issue is that the only graphics card it picks up is the integrated one not the 580. Can I disable the integrated graphics somehow?

    Thanks

then you need to force the maxpayne.exe in nvidia controlpanel.
    so called whitelist.

max payne 2? This old game doesn't push the card at all - my 580 (3d model so no optimus :)) always runs automatically in P1 with this game, the lower clock setting, so it does sound like the IGFX is staying active. Lots of threads about how to force this, I don't have the option....

That's how I got to try it out.

Not sure how the Fn-F7 works but if it is a toggle then maybe that will switch you? You always have the option to set the primary video in the BIOS and not let it auto select - I've seen posts where this was the solution

cheers, well I tried that and now Max Payne doesnt load at all. Before it got to the settings page where you can then run the game.

If I turn the settings back to default the settings page appears but only has the integrated graphics as its display adaptor....

What a pain!! I just wanted to replay these before 3 is out!

ok made a new discovery. Basically the screen was set at 59hz (monitor output) setting it to 60hz allowed the game to load to the title screen and then crash with a direct x error.

If I then set the game to windows XP compatibility and can the display extension the game will now allow me to choose my native screen res of 1920x1200, however @ 1920x1200 32bit the game will crash on the title screen again. However set it to 1920x1200 16bit the game works and plays fine...

Anyone know how big the difference is?

    Thanks

Not sure in what you actually see but it relates to the colour depth, in this game it might not show to the eye. Still, very weird. Have you tried a direct x update? Although this game would not need the latest, there might be some compatibility update?

Forgot, I'm colour blind so see the world slightly differently :(

lol cheers for that just noticed how bad that was written!!

Well at least it works now, I know for sure its nothing to do with what display adaptor it sees anyway... its some other funky error!

Yup, important thing is, does it play OK.

So, you are selecting (from a list of one) and running on the IGFX?

Interested to know as this game may well play on it and that would probably account for it not liking 32bit color depth.
