Hey,
I was looking to do a memory upgrade from 8GB to 16GB. I have already tried this once. I know that I need to use DDR3L in my Alienware 17. I ordered 2 sticks from Kingston and 3 days after install I started to received blue screens until I uninstalled them. The memory specs were:
8GB Module - DDR3L 1600MHz
Part Number: KVR16LS11/8
Specs: DDR3L, 1600MHz, Non-ECC, CL11, X8, 1.35V, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 204-pin
I sent them back. I am currently at 8GB STOCK. The memory is Samsung Brand. Speccy reports it at 11-11-11-28. Though it also states it is DDR3 and not DDR3L and also reports the memory at 800mhz and not 1600mhz. I was looking at getting Crucial memory and trying it because of the 100% compatibility guaranty. The memory specs are:
Brand: Crucial
Form Factor: SODIMM
Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
Warranty: Limited Lifetime
Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800 CL=11 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR3-1600 1.35V
Series: Crucial
Part number: CT2KIT51264BF160B
My question is has anyone done a memory upgrade to the new Alienware Laptops? If so have you received BSODs afterwards? Also if not what brand of memory did you get and what were the specs?

BSOD's usually with memory refer to one of the sticks being bad. If it doesnt give you beep codes when starting up. Also as I said in another post you can use 1867mhz ram and up ram in your machine. Also please make sure your ram is DDR3L or it will not work. Lastly windows read ram at half speed but it is actually double whatever you see. -
tbh anything over 8gb ram is overkill unless you're doing video editing work.

I've always used this memory (Kingston HyperX) and it has worked perfectly every time: Kingston Technology HyperX Plug n Play 16 GB Kit (2x8 GB) 1600MHz DDR3 PC3-12800 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM 1.35V Notebook Memory KHX16LS9P1K2/16 at Amazon.com. This is the 1600MHz version, but I usually purchase 1866MHz for the same price.
Just a tip: Don't mix different memory. -

800mhz clock = 1600mhz DDR (DDR = double data rate
)

Yes, I agree. If you're just gaming, the 8GB is fine. Good luck!

Is that DDR3L? -
Yeah, it's 1.35v. Just doesn't say "DDR3L."
They are discontinuing the HyperX (so I read, not sure if it's true) and replacing it with "Kingston Impact" memory: Kingston HyperX Impact Black 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3L CL9 SODIMM 1.35V Laptop Memory (HX316LS9IBK2/16) at Amazon.com. The HyperX is on sale right now. -

Nice deals, for the enthusiast 1866mhz is the sweet spot.

Beautiful, didn't pay attention to the fact it was 1.35v.
Then yes, @op you could get that one

Why is that the sweetspot? Is that the best balance of mhz vs timings?
