Well, for anyone with enough money to give out I found this.
Samsung 8GB Memory (1x8GB), 1333MHz SDRAM RDIMM Laptop Memory K4B4G0846A-HCH9 - MerkAmerica's Laptop Store
Its $ 999.00 for a 8gb stick of 1333 DDR3.
You can get up to 32 GB if you have an extra $3,986 lying around...
Talk about marking up prices...

I'm curious when the 8GB prices are going to drop below insane levels. I can sort of understand $250-$300 a stick at this point, but $1K?? That's just bat sh*t crazy.

@kunekaden: What are the specs on that RAM out of curiosity?
-
Dang....32GB...you could probably run a nuclear reactor with that!
I am all giddy thinking about my 8GB!
Heck, my first hard drive ever was 512MB, and I was "sportin" a whoppin 3MB of RAM, with 1MB of video RAM. I was the envy of the neighborhood!
Yes, I am old....grrr! -

Im only 21 and my first computer had 3.1 with a HDD 89gb HDD listed @ 100mb ( still have it somewhere ), pentium 1 cpu @ 133mghz If I recall? Someone correct me if pentium 1's even went in that range. I dont even thing I had over 8mb of ram at the time....hell I might even still have those sticks laying around somewhere in the attic. Asteroids anyone?

I had the Microsoft Arcade 3.5 floppy. I liked Centipede the best.
133 MHz! Crap, mine was only 16 MHz. You must have had a chubby! -
My first real machine (after the Timex Sinclair) was a Tandy 1000 with 128KB RAM and no harddrive at all, It had a 720KB 3.5" floppy. I think I bought a hard drive for it eventually that was 32MB but MS-DOS 2.11 could only support a partition of 20MB so I had to split it into two partitions!
I also bought an addon card from Tandy which added a real-time clock chip (I had to previously set the clock after every reboot ...) and it included a RAM upgrade of 256MB bringing the up to 384KB.
Oh yeah, the CPU was an Intel 8088 running at 4.77MHz! -
Well, technically, I did not mention the TI-99 that I had in High School. I have absolutely no idea what the specs were, but it only ran BASIC. No disc drives whatsoever. You could hook up a cassette (yes, cassette) recorder via an Atari 2600 cable to record data. And buy a coupling modem, where you would place your desktop telephone ear piece on it.
I then gave up computers for 12 years.
How bout that whipper-snapper! LOL!
And, I walked to school 20 miles each way, uphill!
All in fun....all in fun.
This laptop is a bit of a middle age crazy for me :> -
Man 32 gbs -drools- dont even kno if i would ever want or need that much but still -drools- Im pretty young compare to you guys my first was a dell something running windows 95, but sometimes i wish i was born in the 1960s-80s during the golden age of computers and the hacking subculture, seems so much more glamourous back then.

Why even bother paying that much ($999.00 for 8gb) just to have registered ram modules (RDIMM) .... Just go for some regular ram like normal people LOL and save a whole packet of cash in the process....just buy some regular unbuffered ram instead of paying out shed loads to have buffered stuff. Unless you are a lottery winner and dont mind paying $1000 for 8gb when you can get it for a tenth of the price.....

Off Thread: X286, IBM 33mhz, 20mb hard drive (yes, MB), EGA Graphics
On topic: Im sure that insane price will bottom out in the next 6 months, once mainstream laptops can support said chips. -
Anybody knows about the cobra systems? Which yes, like scottiemon mentioned with audio cassette loading a game. Was taking about 20 minutes to load a game like 'chuckie egg' and sometimes there was power failure or some problem with the cassette player, had to start all over again... What dreams
)
I guess the price will drop fast once the memory will be all over the market... -
I'm only 19 and my father, uncle & some of my dads friends think its funny to talk about the old old machines and games in front of me just to confuse me...
32gb...Yes please omg... -

I remember my first computer fondly....it was a Commodore Vic 20 with a massive 1k memory - it had a seperate tape deck like metioned for games and a thwacking great big slot in the back that accomodated huge cartridge based games.....then I got the Commodore 64 with (wait for it) even bigger memory lol.....always wanted a Spectrum ZX81 though, never did get one as my parents were too stingy hahahaha.....

If those 'mega rich folks' don't dive into new technology knowing they are doing so at irrationally inflated prices, there would typically be no basis to continue production and the rest of us plebs would never get a chance at the shiny -

My first PC had a 20 MB hard drive, 1 MB RAM, 256K video RAM, MS DOS 2 (if I recall correctly) and an 8088 co-processor.
I went from that to a 486DX33Mhz with 4MB RAM, 120 MB hard drive and a 1 MB vid card (actually upgradable to 2MB if you bought the chip separate) running MS Windows 3.11 for Workgroups on MS DOS 5.
As for upgrading to 32GB RAM....I eventually plan on doing just that but for now I am content with the 8GB that I have. Will also need to upgrade the CPU first since I only went with the 2630 initially with the intention of eventually upgrading it.
Memory Upgrade to 32GB possible
