    Hey guys,

My cousin got me into Skype and League of Legends recently and requested that I use it during games. However, no matter what I try, I can't get the onboard microphone to work on my R3. Drivers are updated, the "hardware is working properly" according to properties, etc. Do you think it's an actual hardware issue where it might just be unplugged? My microphone jack works, because it detects when a mic is connected (but my mic doesnt work so that's a no-go). Please advise.

Thx y'all! Also, it's good to be back on NBR again !

    Welcome back, dookie.
Check in Control Panel under Sound Options > Sound if the integrated microphone is set to be the default device, right click it and choose the option.

    Cheers

You actually have to manually adjust it in skype even if you do it in the windows control panel. I had this problem myself before.

My old man uses Skype and if you change the default recording device in control panel I found he had to shut down skype and start it back up for it to detect the new "default" device. Otherwise you can manually select the recording device from skype as well aye (his computer is quite old though and uses WinXP so this may not be accurate for you)

As long as you have the default recording device set to the "Microphone Array" you can always open the sound recorder program in windows and try recording a quick test to make sure that is able to record a test for ya. Also in the Microphone Array properties you might wanna check the levels tab and choose at least +10db for microphone boost and insure the recording volume is (above microphoen boost) is setup to 75 or so. Tried this dozens of times yesterday. It's silent when the music (wma) file is replayed in Winamp... So I wonder if I just have a broken mic setup or it's disconnected somewhere inside the lappy?

I had this happened to me before too...
I had to use function + f something not sure right now... i am at work without my laptop.
Aparantly the webcam and microphone array are linked, so you need to have the webcam enable or on for the mic array to work

Son of a... LOLZ. Fn+F9 "enabled" the webcam, and like you said the mic is linked to it. Damn, who the heck woulda known this?

Quick question though: Does "enabling" the webcam "turn it on" (i.e., is it videotaping me right now while I have no shirt on? Or does it have to be running a program to be capturing video)?

    THANKS BRO! (repped)

Ah, this damn webcam/array-thing. It bugged me out why skype wont reconize my voice...

And no, it doesnt actually turn the webcam on. TBH, I dont really know what it does from a technical point of view. When you webcam is on like "hey, I see you naked!" theres this little green led showing that.

Some spyware can bypass everything so you won't even know that your webcam is recording, so careful :p

In that case no, but i thought he meant only turning it off not disabling it.

So as long as I have it disabled via Fn+F9, do I have anything to worry about?

I don't know what the Fn+F9 does on the R3 as i don't have one, but if you want to be 100% sure just put a piece of paper in front of the camera when you don't use it, lol or disable it in Device Manager.
