Ok so like the title says I can't seem to get my microphone port to work. I have the m17x r3 with Windows 8 and all the drivers installed.Everything else on the sound card works (headphones, spdif) even the inner mic but when I plug in a microphone the computer doesn't even recognize it. I feel like it's going to be asked so yes it's the right hole, no it is not muted and have tried 3 different mics so that's not the issue. One thing that's on my mind is that this is my first time trying to use an external mic so is it possible that upgrading to Windows 8 caused this problem? I've been searching online and it seems a lot of people have problems where the motherboards was the cause but they all seemed to have trouble getting any sound out of the laptop so I can't see how it would be the same cause for one malfunctioning port. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is? Also, I noticed that whenever something's plugged into the spdif the headphone ports stop working. Is there any way to get them to work simultaneously? If so I wouldn't even have to bother with getting the mic port to work.

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated :)

The only way to know if W8 is causing the behavior would be to get back to W7. If it happens there as well then the motherboard may need to be replaced.
