    Has anyone got this working?

I brought a displayport cable, but ended up having to buy a mini displayport to normal size displayport adaptor to fit the cable.

I plugged into my new 24 inch Dell monitor, but it didn't work at all.

Some how the laptop could detect a screen was there, but there was no signal on the monitor. The M17x R3 reported the only resolution to be 640x480 in the monitor settings control panel.

Do I need some kind of special displayport cable with the alienware, like a dell only cable?

Nope, should work fine out of the box.

This is crazy, I called Dell support and they said my new mini DP adaptor and new 3m DP cable is not compatible and faulty. Then Dell said I needed to pay for a Dell brand cable!

For anyone thinking of using their DP feature, beware.

I bought a $12 mdp to mdp cable to connect my m17xr3to my iMac 27" and it works fine.

    Cheers,

I'm using a mini-displayport to DVI adapter to connect a second monitor. It works fine for me.

Try checking the alternate DVI operational mode under the flat panel settings in CCC, if it's not checked. That did it for me.

I cannot see any option there. Can you post a screenshot where that is exactly?

Keep in mind that my adaptor is Mini DP to Standard DP.

Dell has said on the phone the M17x R3 Mini DP output has only support for DVI and HDMI, with no actual DP output. I cannot find any spec sheet white paper to back this up?

Is everyone else using Mini DP to DVI?
