Just gone over 1 year with my M17x R3, so the warranty is finished.
In the last few days, my R3 will not wake from either sleep or hibernation. I have had no other changes recently. The only thing that I installed that may have cause a problem, even though I never changed any settings, was Intel's XTU.
Other than that, if I go into sleep or hibernation, I am forced to hold down the power button for five seconds, then boot erasing pervious data.
I am stuck having to shut down and start back up completely ever time I want to use it now.
I have read many threads about this same issue, although I believe no one has fixed theirs, so going to some extreme measures.
Is the motherboard going or has gone faulty?

Have you tried formatting the system and reinstalling windows 7? Might do the trick.

A good suggestion but before going through the trouble I would try a SFC System File check and a Repair Install if the system file scan doesn't turn come up with anything.
Prior to that, you may also want to try and clear your page file ( pagefile clear guide 2) as well as your hibernate.sys file by disabling the hibernate function, reboot and then re-enable hibernate.

Thanks for the above, I have yet to do that but from what I read reformatting and reinstalls are not fixing the issue. I'm not ready to blow away 1 years worth of OS and data just yet.
I will try the other above purge, as something to fix the issue will be better.
Weird it's just started doing this. Like I said it is a common problem, with no known fix yet?

Thanks that helped heaps. I went back into the system and found that XTU install 3 pieces of software.

    1. Intel XTU
    2. Intel SMBus
    3. Intel Watch Dog

I did notice that software package 2 and 3 were not removed when I uninstalled the XTU.

After these two remaining packages were removed, my R3 is back doing sleep and hibernation :)

One other thing to note is XTU is installed. Use ADIA or simular software and check the BIOS tab, you will find that XTU has written vaules into the BIOS during installion, such as the power and memory timings etc.

I would not recommend installing XTU on the M17x R3, just not worth the hassle.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Glad you got it fixed.

I've been running XTU for a little while and have not seen any issues. What version were you using? I'm on 2.1 as that seems to have the most options to play with.

I have only tired 2.1, really only wanted to unlock the tdp limit.
Then really want to mess with the memory timings, but are concerned the R3 may not post if/when settings go to far.

Btw. What bios version are you using, and is modded or not too?
