Hey everyone -- I just upgraded to a 6970m -- courtesy from Table, of the forum members. Though I have a question before I install it. What should I do before I install it? Which driver should I use, what should I uninstall first etc.?

    Thanks!

The drivers should work the same for both cards. Although to be super safe, you can install the ORIGINAL RELEASED m17x-R3 drivers for the 6970M from Dell and go from there to get it to 11.10 or 11.11.

Going from a 6870 to a 6970? I'd be tempted to plug it in and just turn on the computer

I've done that on desktops numerous times and the computer runs like a champ, but i don't know if the alienware is more finicky. The best part is I didn't even need to reinstall the driver

but if you wanted to do a clean install, i'd uninstall all Catalyst software and ATI drivers, reboot so the computer comes up in VGA mode.
    Shut off the computer
    Install the new card
reset bios by pulling cmos battery for a min
    Restart
Install new ATI drivers (probably 11.11 WHQL's)
    Enjoy the new card :D
