Mr. Fox, are these mods applicable to the Alienware 17?

The Alienware 18 PSU will work with the AW 17.

It's a 330w delta unit designed for dells. Not many 330w units exist.

are you pushing more than 240w on just a single card? that's pretty damn crazy for a system with just a single card if you are.

I'm pushing 241* watts (Made a slightly more stable overclock) with a 4ghz CPU overclock stable at 1.008v and an 1019ghz on the GPU stable at 1.050v. I was running a much more aggressive overclock only to find out I was pushing 270watts + shutting down the machine and down clocking every thing.

Could you point me in the correct direction for the PSU, I'll do some searching on my own. But just want to make sure I'm getting the right thing.

Edit: 3DMark Score ~ (With PSU Shutting Down frequently): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4900MQ,Alienware 068R5X

Edit 2: Is this the PSU that will be plug & play with my machine? Dell 330-Watt AC Adapter with 6 ft Power Cord for Select Dell Alienware / Vostro Laptops / Precision Workstations / Alienware Desktops : Computer Accessories | Dell ~ This is for the newer gen, I imagine it will work? Amazon.com: Dell Alienware M18x 330W AC Adapter XM3C3 ADP-330AB B DA330PM111: Computers & Accessories ~ This one is for older gens, I don't think this will work?

Again to clarify, would the new one be compatible just plug it and go with no mods to the 330watt psu?

Yes true, I thought he would know since he has knowledge of a lot of the systems owning both an m18x r2 and an Alienware 18. But regardless useful information is gratefully appreciated from all :)

Fox has done a mod with guide for using 2*330W supplies where he connected the two ID wires for his M18. So its not like he is against all PSU mods. ;)

The XM3C3 is the right one. I'd order through Dell, but that's me.

That model was the older model, the one I ordered was the newer one from dell and it was for the Alienware 18 it said on the product page that it relaxed the XM3C3.

Edit: So I'd assume it would be okay? Let me know if it isn't and I'll cancel my order. Thank you!

This should work. I believe there are others already using the 330W AC adapter with the Alienware 17. Sorry I did not see this thread until now. You may have already figured it out, LOL. ;)
