just wondering if anyone else is having these issues after having the machine for 1-2 years.

    1) If i unplug my network cable, then plug it back in, the machine is in a constant search, and keeps the machine at 100% CPU usage until i turn it off.

    2) all the LED's randomly turn off, the a few hours later back on. My guess is the controller on the motherboard going bad

    3) randomly the GPU fans will turn on to full speed. this happens at idle, as well as browsing the web.

just wondering if anyone else has these issues, and if you do what was the fix?

Try a bios reset. Remove the CMOS battery for 10 - 15 minutes.

You've had that laptop for a while now, so I have a few questions. Have you done a fresh install of Windows lately? How long has it been since you opened the laptop up and cleaned the heat sinks out, re-pasted the CPU/GPU cores, and replaced the thermal pads?

All of the issues you're talking about could likely be fixed by those options.

A nice, fresh install of Windows with the newest drivers, and well taken-care of thermals will make your laptop feel like new.

i did a fresh install of windows a few weeks ago just because of the crummy performance.

the fans and heak sinks were also cleaned at that time.

the only thing i have't done yet is re-pasted the cpu and gpu's. guess that will be the next thing to try

Definitely try to repaste it, it gives me a totally new experience after doing it.
Now my max temperature on my both GPUs after playing games for hours never exceed 72C, and both cards are OCed to 800/1100. :)

did the repaste only on the cpu this morning, since i've done it the fans haven't gone on to full speed, i checked the temps before i did the repaste, and was getting about 60c at idle, now it's staying at 49-51c

    Magical, isn't it? :D
    Congrats!

So what are your specs? Ambient temperature?

i7 720QM @ 1.6GHz, but CPU-Z is saying i'm running at 1.7-2.6GHz yet the machine is not overclocked
48c-51c only all cores at idle

    dual 4870's
1 GPU is at 44c, and the other is at 39c at idle, but noticed the main one is running at 250MHz and the 2nd one is at 67MHz at idle. guess the lower temp means it's not being used at all

probably means i need to repaste the gpu's as well
