After updating the 6970 driver on my M17x, it is somehow being recognized as 6900. Anyone know how to turn it back to 6970?

There is no 6900. Its saying your card is a 6900 series card.

Then stop fussing over it. If it's a 69xx series graphics card, the drivers are working as designed.

As mentioned above, this is normal when you use reference AMD drivers. You will only see the gpu series (69xx or 58xx etc) listed for information purposes. It is only the Dell drivers that actually identify which card from that particular series you have installed.

Absolutely nothing to wory about. If you were concerned that you might have had, say a 6970m instead of a 6990m, simply check the clock rates and pipeline information using gpu-z to confirm the card is what you think it is. A 6990m will have higher base clocks and more shaders which will allow you to identify the model of card you have - eg. 6990m would be 715/900 and 1120 vs. 6970m 680/900 and 960. That info is readily available on Notebookcheck in case anyone wonders what gpu they have installed if all you see is the gpu series and not the specific card.

When I had my 6970m installed on my laptop it said 6900 series. Now with my 6990m's it still says 6900 series. Doesn't hurt the performance of the cards as this is normal.
