... Is ' Out For Delivery' on a FedEx truck; scheduled to be delivered today by 3.00 pm!!!!

Ordered on 6/16/10, it took less then 10 days for it to be delivered; Outstanding in my opinion. I was under the impression it takes 3 weeks or more for a customized Alienware notebook to be delivered from date of order.

I will be posting detailed Pictures, Reviews and any/all Annoyances in this thread once I receive my notebook today.

    These are my specs:

Nice. I would suggest upgrading to an ssd drive for your OS when you can. The mechanical HDD is the only bottleneck in that system and you will be amazed at the difference in speed.

I do agree with you, its what that system lacks ;) upgrade it when you feel it will make a difference for you.

    Sorry guys, Got occupied.

Anyhow - it's here! And it's awesome. I've owned a lot of brand notebooks over the years; everything from Compaq, IBM, HP, Toshiba to Acer & ASUS ... all configurations aside, the build quality is just Superb! I could not say enough about the build. It's truly a mobile Desktop rather then a notebook, and that's precisely what I was looking for.

Very powerful; beats the hell out of my previous Desktop. The whole package was worth the price.

Wow sweet setup! Don't know how you lasted long enough to take all those pics! When mine got here on Monday it didn't last more than like 24 seconds before it was out of the box LOL!

Ugh I just ordered mine yesterday, pretty much the same config as yours. Looking at your pictures is a minor form of torture :D

Should I expect it in 10 days or fewer? Like you I thought Alienware's usually took longer than that.

Whoa man, those are the nicest looking pics of the black finish I've seen yet! Either you have an especially sweet laptop or an exceptional cool camera. ;)

    I believe you, heh.

So, have you tried booting it up on battery only? So far, I've tried two newly received M17xR2's with dual 4870's neither will boot when on battery.

They both will shut off right when it shows "Starting Windows". Sometimes it takes a few reboots, but typically, it happens right away and even at 100% charge.

This has been posted elsewhere here, in other threads by others, but no one knows why yet...

@lancorp: Quite honestly, from whatever I had read & learned, these machines are really not meant to work on battery. Conceptually, yes ... since they are a notebook; but realistically, no ... for the sheer power & components at play. I was looking for a 'mobile' desktop; mobility of a notebook but power & personality of a desktop. This Alienware is exactly that. I haven't tried booting up solely on battery & I don't intend to or require.

@alienwolf: Thanks!!! The other side is amazing! :)

@TigerWhistle: hehe ... I'd like to think I have an especially sweet laptop! ;) The reality is that just before my purchase, I dug around the Internet high & low for some really good, high resolution, in depth pictures of the black finish because I was kinda torn between black & silver. But apart from pictures from this one dude, I really could not find any raw, homemade, non-dell pictures that satisfied me. That was my primary reason for taking extensive high resolution shots of my Alienware; hoping folks in my position will benefit from these.

@Achilleus: SSD is definitely a planned upgrade, but not immideately.

I've now had both the black and the silver, and I can say from seeing first hand the difference between the two that the black color is much better looking. I haven't seen red but don't know if I'd like it as I like a "stand out in an inconspicuous way" look and don't think the red would do that very well lol.

Ahhh...sounds to me your afraid to see what might happen!! ;) It takes only a few minutes to try, and since you don't intend to run on battery, who cares about the outcome (except those of us who are asking others to try it...)

    Thanks.

    @dirtydan: great advise!!

@lancorp: Haha; nah .. nothing to do with fear, just didn't see the use. Anyhow, it did two tests for you. One was booting up on Battery and the other was unplugging battery while it was working.

When I booted it up on battery, the BIOS asked me to connect the AC Adapter for optimal performance. I ignored & pressed F1 to continue. The system booted up into windows. I checked mail and browsed around; the battery started dying but the system didn't shut down on me or anything. I shut it down manually before the battery drained out.

When I unplugged the cable; the taskbar asked me to connect AC Adapter for optimal performance. I ignored & continued to use the system. Same as before, the battery started draining, but the system worked! I shut it down manually.

There is sufficient components in this machine to suck the battery like a bee on sunflower, but the system definitely booted up & continued to work on battery; it didn't go into a black & blue screen.

    Cheers!

    Couple of quick question guys:

    i. Turbo Mode: Is this something you can set manually or does it kick on itself? Do we have any say on turning this on or off?

ii. The black finish is absolutely outstanding; only one drawback is that it attracts fingerprints & smudges like a magnet. What are you guys using to clean the body surface & the LCD? Will the 'ol Windex & Paper Towel be sufficent?

    Thanks!

Don't ever use Windex or Paper Towels!!! Buy a nice micro fiber cleaning cloth and a cleaner made specifically for LCD TV/Computer monitors. Or they have the disposable wipes also that works as well. Shouldn't cost more then $15-20 bucks and the investment is worth it for a notebook, you most likely spent over $2000 on. Don't ruin the special coating on your display or M17's body by going the cheap route.
