So I received my R3 the other day and I love everything about it. I only have one minor issue. Behind the protective edge to edge cover on the lcd panel there is a spec or dirt/dust. I am just wondering how many other people have this problem and if there is anything I can do about like removing the panel cover and cleaning it. I don't find it to be a huge issue but I do notice it sometimes when the page I am looking at is light and I want my R3 to be as perfect as possible. :D Thanks.

I can recall this mentioned at least three times by others and couple of million times by myself. I exchanged on the basis of more issues also being present.

Yea I think I recall a few saying that but I also forgot to mention I don't want to do an exchange because I am satisfied with everything else and just wondering if there is something I can do or just deal with it.

You can call dell and request just a screen replacement. They'll send the screen (basically the entire lid) to a dell technician they've contracted in your zip code, he'll call you and make an appointment once he receives it (usually the next business day). Then he will come and swap the screens, it's very easy.

This way you keep everything else you're happy with.

Yea I might do this but it would be a hassle for me as I bought mine from dell usa to get a better price and the 6970 and I brought it up to Canada. I might just deal with it as it is then. Thanks for the help though.

Ahhhh this is something I should totally do with my R3 then, since I have warranty, right? (Cuz that's the only thing that's really messed up besides that glitchy mouse-cursor thing.

Try lightly tapping on the screen. Sometimes the dust speck falls to the bottom.

I tried it but no luck, it's not really dust. It's something thicker than dust that is stuck to the protective covering. Thanks for the help though.

Absolutely. Your replacement, judging by what you're describing, is much worse than the original one you've got. If the scratch on the lid is the only thing that stands between you and nirvana (for glitchy mouse I'd rather blame the driver, not the unit itself), then by all means just let the dell know how unhappy you are with the paintjob (i presume you've already made it abundantly clear to dell while requesting the replacement) and just ask for the screen swap.

Actually, come to think of it, what prevents you from either asking dell to send you a technician and swap the screens between two units you have on your hands now or doing it yourself? Per service manual, it's extremely easy (i realigned the lid that was slightly off when closed while swapping the frame around the keyboard and installing 16 gig of ram, it looks like there are just few connectors you disconnect and 6 screws you unscrew). Well, dell's technician should probably be a the only option if you ask dell for permission.

Emailed them yesterday telling them about my unhappiness, etc etc. Since they won't let me get a refund, I'm demanding proper compensation for all this bad service, bad product, crappy wait times, and bad QC.

I just recieved mine and it has a 1/8" piece of ?hair? that is very visable on light color screens. It looks like a very small eyelash. It doesn't want to tap out. Everything else seems pretty great. So close yet so far.

My R3 took a month to ship and arrived with a dead pixel(s) just down and left of the center of the screen. There were many customer service issues getting the unit.

I called and Dell agreed to replace the unit. It took another month to get it as they were out of screens.

At least this screen is ok. But the customer service is lacking.

Maybe I'll get lucking and they'll forget to send the return label and I'll have two for the price of one ;)

LOL, doubt it. They sent me a replacement touchpad for my r2. I was a bit slow returning the faulty one to them an they were calling me every other day.

It is really easy. I swapped lips from my replacement to my original unit.
