So I got my M17xR3 review, and I thought I'd do a quick review on it
First off, the boxing was quite amazing (this is my first alienware), and I was quite pleased with the packaging. The laptop appeared to be flawless, but as I have used it throughout the day, I have noticed some defects:
1. The left speaker lamp is dimmer than the right speaker lamp.
2. The left side panel is coming off a tiny bit near the end towards the LCD
Now on the the rest,
Display
The display is gorgeous. I have had a compaq presario, and high end toshiba satellite, and a MSI GX720. None of them hold a candle to the display. Its SO bright, I had to turn it down to middle brightness. Colors are great too. I'm on the 1920x1080 WLED display.
Keyboard
The keyboard is large, and comfortable to type on. The s key is a little weird since it also has bumps like f and j, but you'll get used to it. the backlighting is one of my favorite features. The flex is minimal and not noticeable AT ALL
Performance
I ordered mine with the 2630qm and the 6970m. I mostly run emulators such as Dolphin X64 and PCSX2. I had a high end MSI GX720 custom built laptop which used to do an iffy job running these emulators, even with the latest and greatest hardware (at the time, which was 1.5 years ago)
The 6970M + 2630qm BLOW THE EMULATORS OUT OF THE WATER!!!
I had 100% speed going into Final Fantasy 10, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Metroid prime, which is incredible. I managed to bump up the graphics level significantly, and managed to stay between 85-99 percent speed, which is crazy on these games. needless to say, performance is great. I ran 3dmark 06 out of the box and got 17775 3dmarks (idk how this compares to others on the same config: 2630qm, 6970m, 4gb ram)
Sound
The speakers are great on this laptop. The only other comparable laptop I've had was the Toshiba with its harmon kardon speakers. On full volume, sound is clear, and there is no noise or crackling. Sound remains clear and beautiful.
Battery Life
On lowest brightness and internet surfing on the Intel 3000, I got 4 hours and 45 minutes of battery life, double my GX720 battery life! Zero complaints here and I am very happy with this
Other thoughts
Aside form the few defects in the casing, it has a VERY solid build quality, even for plastic. A dedicated ESATA port is very nice, as are the HDMI in/out ports. I feel like it was actually money well spent.
In short: GET ONE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT AND DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS!

Just give it a try. You can always order one from the US
-
Well the thing is I'm situated in Canada, does the US website offer service to Canadians as well?

I will PM you since I dont want to hijack this thread.

If you call Dell Canada you can ask for a 6970m. They might say they can't do that so you have to tell them that you know people who were able to get the 6970m from Dell Canada and I'm pretty sure they will give it to you.

the sound is great too! i was quite pleased that at max volume, there was no crackling or extra noise with the sound, just pure music! You won't need the bose, unless you REALLY have extra money to blow on!
