** Video links are in post #2.

I apologize for the pics My wife took all the pics off the camera to her laptop and deleted them from the camera so Ill have some higher rez shots up soon. iPhone pics arent great but I thought it accurately reflects the black color as grayish which is how it appears to my eyes.

    ANyhow, the 2 machines are:

    Black
    i7-2820
    256 SSD
    GTX 460
    120hz panel w/3d
    Bluray
    intel 6300
    w7 Home premium

    Nebula Red
    i7-2720
    320 GB 7200 rpm Hdd
    HD 6970
    60hz 1080p panel
    intel 6300
    w7 Proffesional

I'll do a write up of my impressions of both when I get a chance at work. Im not a benchmarker and I play few games so I wont be much help but I did make a boot-up video comparison of the two and a quick flying around in WOW at Ultra settings on both. Both vids are uploading. I didnt try to be proffesional with them I thought I would just make them quick before I mail one machine back.

The stealth black machine has the chipset recall and I delayed the return a few times so i can have them side by side but I am returning it today so it will be gone sadly.

Here are a few pics. Most are the same I just tried getting a few different angles to show the light.

Useful video's thanks for taking the time to do this

The difference in brightness is quite shocking, not sure but maybe the 60hz panel has an issue

How much of a difference in FPS do you think there will be in WoW with the 2630QM vs. the 2720QM???

Yes the brightness was surprising to say the least. I'm going to askfor a new panel because there is serious distortion points on the glass which is kind of annoying when something reflects.

I honestly don't have a clue how much of a difference te 2630 will be but remember if you turn shadows and sone stuff down a little the 2630 will still pump out good frames. Personally I'd suggest 2720 just because you can use much faster memory and timings but if you are getting the STD gpu like 5870 then go with 2630 to keep the price down.

Here's my screen on my new r3 reflecting the blinds in my family room.. The machine is off obviously.

My old screen on the 120hz panel is perfectly flat and smooth. Frustrating.

Ok gotcha, I was wondering if you could go into a major city as well? Like Dalaran and see how your FPS does... Or even a 25 man! :D

I probably should have done that as well sorry. I dropped off my first machine with the 460 earlier today but I'd be happy to do it with my new one. I wish I could help with raids etc but I don't pve at all. I dont think I've done any pve since mc in vanilla lol. Grand marshal and multiple gladiator, 250k hk.. Pvp is my thing :)

    Damn man! lol

I am getting the 6970M anyways, so I would rather you use it anyways.. :p

I haven't played WoW since WoTLK(not too long ago) but it has been about a year or two now..

I tried PVPing back then, but no matter what, my team mates and me were just not up to par with others.. I would usually Raid my a55 off, we will see how well Mages have become soon enough for PVPing... :D

The pic of reflection distortion is nice
Checked mine and it's lightly distorted above the hinges, which makes sense.

im not against pve its fun too i just dont have the time to commit to raids etc anymore. Now that Im strapped for time with the little one I haven't even hit 85 yet.

my old r3 did have ever so slight distortion along the bottom edges too but this machine literally looks like its been shot by a pellet gun all over the middle and sides.

Awesome comparisons dude. G73SW with 120 Hz screen is also noticeable brighter than G73JW with 60 Hz.

I feel ya there mine is 13 months and I get no time at all at home. Were expecting another in 7 mos or so but luckily I get to play while I'm at work. I've always played wc3/TFT and lately I got so sick of leveling I just play wc3 and cs source.

I should add that the nebula red is so so sexy! It destroys the black in my opinion. Aesthetics have always been huge for me and was one reason why I bought a MacBook, a black r2 and the first r3 was black but man... The red is a SEXY metallic red that makes me just like the machine even more.

i willdo it for you when i have my break at 530 :) maybe its time for me to finally hit 85 and start playing wow again !

Z0G I tried logging in but my latency is like 4k... i think im downloading an update or something (fff i hate windows i dont know how to see what is dl/ul'ing or to stop it) and i got disconnected. Ill make a video for you when i get home for sure of flying around and running in SW where its busy and maybe some pvp action. Hard part for me at work is I tether with an iphone 4. if I pull the phone down from where I keep it with the antenna directed East to make a video i drop 2 bars and my connection goes to the crapper.

Apart from the boot times what was the general performance difference you noticed between the SSD and HDD

there is another thread discussing this, you will notice boot time reduced by maybe 10sec, programs will open faster, those two activities amount to about 0.00002% of my computing activity, it will not make games run faster, it will not make 98% of the applications you generally use run faster, I like 1.5tb of room while the ssd crowd are spending more time making room

basically, its not even noticeable for me. I intend to put in an ssd eventually but am wondering why I should spend the money. This hdd is the first non ssd i've had in a few years and made me realize theyre not so bad.

I only notice a little lag starting up programs and only really when I click alienfx it used to be almost instant now i press the button a few times thinking it didnt click and then see it pop up a few seconds later.

Ill end up getting an ssd because I just need to spend money but now with m11x r3 rumors being true and m14x coming out I am stuck between selling and going with a smaller machine.

seriously what is the point, I very rarely boot from bios mostly from standby and that takes all of 2 secs

There have been numerous threads and reviews on here and on the net, the conclusions are solid and set in stone, with an SSD you will gain 2 things

1.Boot time (which for me is as useful as a fart in a space suit)
2.Programs load faster, now if you are like me and open programs about once every 3 hours saving about 1-3 secs on opening time then whats the point, a good 7'200 sata drive is fast enough has 2x the room and costs 1/5 of the price

but everyone to their own, just my own view

Geoff is 100% right. If you have money to burn they go SSD. If you want your moneys worth go HDD. simple as that. SSD technology is progressing at such a rapid pace I also believe $600 for an ssd that will be obsolete vs the competition in 3 months is not a bright idea.
