Where can I get an inexpensive one and can I use a 240W for my M17x or do I have to stay with the 210W. TIA.

This is pretty cheap for the size of that adapter:

Amazon.com: NEW Alienware M17x DELL Made Original/Genuine/OEM Laptop AC Adapter Charger : Alienware DELL P/N: PA-7E PA7E FAMILY 210w 210watt 210 watt 19.5V 10.8A Laptop Notebook Mobile Workstation Computer Battery Charger Power Supply Portable Charge

You can't have "too much wattage". Wattage will scale to the computers needs so a 240w would be fine if your requirements are 210w.

Biggest thing you need to do is match the voltage, the power jack itself, and the amperage. These should all be listed on your old adapter, and on a sticker on the bottom of your M17x (sometimes they stuff 'em underneath the battery too).

My recommendation is, if the power adapter in the M17x is a frequent problem (I don't know, I don't own one) I would try to find a 3rd party adapter that has a fan built into it. There are a few companies that do this. Main cause of death in power supplies is heat, yet no company ever thinks "Hey maybe I should put some cooling in the power supply, or a fan!". But, they make so much money off selling the power supplies that I guess there isn't a whole ton of motivation for them to make great ones.

Thanks for your help. I'll get the Amazon one. Dell wants 50.00 more.

I have that 210 watt one from my m6500 and it would not work properly on my m17x

You need the 240 watt brick

    Yeah, get a 240W one.
The one linked on Amazon looks good (OEM 240W at less than $100 is a good deal).
I have 3 at home myself (all flextronics unfortunately but they work)

The Delta psu's seem to have less issues with both the r1 and r2 (r1 psu wattage not showing correctly and r2 battery charging issue)
