    Hi,

My R2 Arrived today and it seems wonderfull, but I have some questions :

1.Stealth mode : Is there an indicator somwhere to tell you if it is in stealth mode or not?

2.Crossfire: how do I know if it's working, I downloaded the profiles and enabled it in CCC, anything more to do? Do I have to make profiles for games, where can I see which profiles are installed (games list). this is my first CF machine, I have had SLI before, I find the CCC confusing compared to the NV cpl, can't seem to do a lot in there...

3.The machine is LOUD, compared to my SLI M1730 this thing sounds like it will lift off, but I guess its like that ...

4.I have a dell remote, I installed the IR driver, but the remote does not work, the remote is ok and works on other computers, but not on this one
    it is THIS remote

    thanks !!

Your 3DMark 06 score looks low i got 15276 stock with 4870's & i7 620M would have thought your system would score higher with 5870's.

    1. The Stealth Mode touch button will be brighter when its enabled. Also you will see the dialog box prompt - to check, touch the button, it will tell you if its enabled or if you want to enable.

    2. What driver are you running? you mentioned downloading profiles - are you using the AMD reference driver or are you still on the Dell 8.763 driver?

As far as I know, you cannot view the actual profiles like you were able to with NV. The Catalyst Control Center window will tell you if crossfire is enabled. Right click on desktop and select 'Catalyst Control Center'. Once open, there should be an option to show crossfire settings (enabled/disabled). Check the pulldown menu at top left.

So when Stealth is ENABLED (the LED is BRIGHTER), then "it's in stealth" means "it's running slower, using less power." When the LED is dimmer, it's NOT in Stealth, so it's running at full power. In other words, bright LED = LOW power, and vice-versa. Is this correct?

I'm running AMD 11.2 from AMD website + 11.2 profiles installer.
Thought I'd skip the Dell driver alltogether ...
So my score is low ... on the other hand I scored P14000ish on 3d mark vantage (strange ..)

Since you just got it you should be fine, but if I were you I would double check the 5870 vbios to see if it is the latest version.

If it isn't you will need to install the dell ati drivers then run the vbios flashing utility then you can reinstall the ATI drivers.

OH and it seems most people are happy with the 11.1a drivers (some people have noticed a drop in performance with 11.2)

As for throttlestop, you can't do much with it with the 740qm.
I would suggest getting SetFSB and use that to OC your proc.

Nope. Not strange. 3dmark06 is more CPU limited and Vantage is GPU. Therefore your low 3dmark06 is based more on your 720 i7 and your strong Vantage is based on your 5870 CF.

Sadly, no. I would say make sure that you read up on preventing core parking (power feature affecting laptop processors commonly), this you can do and has been a problem in both an M15x-R2 and the M17x-R2 I have now.

@debaucher : I already flashed the vbios, was the first thing I did

@Docsteel: So I turned off core parking, but I don't really know what it is, does it have negative effects on system temp? or something else ...

Thanks already for all the info and answers :)

For the noisyness I will do a repaste of the CPU/GPU , less heat = less noise

EDIT : is there something else I need to consider of doing???
I already read all the tutorials batboy listed in the official thread , nuked the system and reinstalled from scratch, I did the SSD fix for the P55 chipset + optimized win7 for SSD, flashed all the bios', used the latest drivers I could find for the hardware, don't think i missed smth, but that core parking thing for example, that I never heard off before, so maybe there is more ...

Hey Psyloid search this forum M17x for the thread titled 'Stealth Gadget'. It is what I use and it is good. It puts a little red or green indicator on your task bar. I would put the link here but I don't know how

    Yes I do :)
