    Hello
    I got m17x r4
    With a 670 card

When i try to play csgo on internal card it works but fps is offcourse low

When I disable the internal card and only 675 card i cant
And in "device manager" on graphicscard I get this info:

device pci \ven_10de&dev_ 1212&subsys_05511028&rev_a1\4&13f92896&0&0008 requires further installation

    What can be wrong?

Hi there, I'm afraid to say the prospect of it being the NV card is more that high! The 675m is a re-badged 580m. No change at all except to loose the 580 number. I had 2 580m's and a 675m in the replacement fail.
Search on 580m problems, at one point they were failing on a weekly basis.

Now the good news, the 680m is a direct swap-in and works fully plug-and-play. Even drivers install. AND about 40% faster then the 675m (after small tweaking), so a healthy upgrade in the process :).

The R4 fully supports the 680m. Anything else (780m) would need an unlocked bios to disable the on-board GPU, and driver install modifications every time the driver is updated.

The 680m is solid and can be overvolted and overclocked a long way. I regularly run mine at +220mhz (with a vbios voltage hike). It mstill runs all the current titles with pretty good visuals :)

Your heatsink is the same as the one supplied with a 680m, if you ask dell you might be able to buy a heatsink. I did as it comes with new pads and paste applied so only needs screwing together - you cannot mess it up :).

Only an ebay search. I got mine used from there. There are 2 types, 2gb and 4gb. The 2gb is a dell OEM and the 4gb is clevo. Both work in the R4 but the clevo already has an unlocked clock, the AW one restricts it to +135mhz. I have unlocked overvolt bios files for both models :)

The 780m can be used if you don't mind editing the driver install as it's non-standard. You may also need an unlocked bios to force the NV GPU, something to do with Optimus not switching with a non-standard GPU. The 780m is not a great deal faster then the 680m and the 680m is VERY overclockable!

I did read about a 980m being possible in the R4 but you'll need to research it - I know there was a user here that was selling them along with install advice. If I see him I'll update this thread. You may also need win 10 for the 980m?

No idea about your .net framework problem...

That should be plug-n-play in the R4 as I believe it was a stock card. I do know that AMD use different size captive screws on the heatsink but they can be removed and replaced if needed.

I can't read that message fully but I can see 'CSM' and a quick google on it it mentions graphic card incompatibilities. It says :'Please change the option "Secure Boot" to " disabled" and the "UEFI Boot" to " CSM Boot' for someone having graphic's issues around CSM. Never heard of it but I'm guessing when the card is switching from vga mode to extended graphics when the game starts?
Any chance of a pic so I can read it all, there might be a clue there...

    Cheers.

Think I might have it. It looks like it's using the microsoft renderer that is normally used for the NV. Now if the AMD is not visible in device manager, only the NV, then it is probably running the card in compatibility mode, and that does not support advanced graphic features - ergo, faulty 675m.

Yup, I think it's dieing (675m). Not unusual for it to run in VGA only - no advanced graphics.

Guess we gave it our best shot. The 680m is still my favorite in the R4. Solid and VERY overclockable. Also fully plug and play.

Good luck with the hunt :)

That's way too hot at idle. On both my machines the iGPU is not used (or even usable) but my idle in windows is around 45c. When in windows on the intel I believe it should be in the mid to low 30's but if I'm way off I'm sure someone will jump in ;).

The 680m at stock runs around 68c in benchmarks. After overvolt and custom vBIOS I can overclock it +220mhz (around +30%) and it never goes over 73c

There are two models clevo (4gb) and Dell (2gb). In use the only real difference is the clevo vbios is already unlocked so you can overclock it until the voltage fails you :(.

You might want to repaste the CPU for the heat issue....

Temp is probably correct, maybe something is heating it up (and slowing it down)? Fresh install is always a good thing after a bunch of 'fixing'.

I went with 2gb because I wanted to be sure the 3D still worked. The different sub ID might cause it to stop working (a stupid Nvidia licensing issue).

If the dell is available at the right price I would prefer it just to be sure drivers install PnP. I have a whole bunch of files and instructions on getting the best from the Dell.

The extra memory and the ability to overclock it without modification is attractive though, guess a lot depends on what is available and prices?

I'll get to the end of this post if you stop hitting me with questions - haha, joking!

I use the OSD inside MSI Afterburner or PrecisionX. They both use the same add-in so make sure you accept the second install, it's not a Trojan or spam, you need it.

With one of these running you can choose what stats you want to see and they appear in-game. Great for seeing how an OC is doing after a couple of hours. And you can see any throttling happening.

I also use the Heaven 4 benchmark. This can be left running and it displays temp and clocks. Used by pretty much every pro for testing a GPU. Hits them hard but no harder than a game can so no threat like Furmark.
    Next? HoHo...

Can't say I've even noticed. Everything seems to work, like the AlienFX keyboard for supported games such as Metro LL, and changing the colours manually.

I guess you have tried the latest version from Dell. It does tie into the bios so it needs to be the latest bios as well. Do you have a modded bios?

I just tried a remote connection to the AW and I have work to do, not working :(.

    That's great news.

I'd love to know if the 680m from clevo is PnP in your R4? It should be even though it has a different sub-ID. No bios or modding needed.

I'm working with a few people upgrading AW graphic cards and this would be great information!

    Thanks.
PS I do have a vbios file that upps the voltage on a 680m Clevo. I run my dell at maximum voltage and it still runs under 75c. Let me know if it's of any interest...

Im surly come with questions and planning to make a litte video when I change and install the Gpu :) so u can see

And dont know what vbios are?

My motherboard died on the clevo but I replaced it with a new one a few months ago. And it works super duper now.

Iv upgraded my alienware to the newest on dell site ( windows 8.1 bios)
Dont know if there a bios to win10?

The R4 is the first machine to get dell approved win 10 so it's already there. Same as win8 basically so it does not need a specific bios version. Remember that if you do install win 10 do not use secure boot (should be a bios option) as this messes with hardware changes.

The vBIOS is firmware on a video card that controls access to the card and features. Stock ones allow some overclocking but it needs a custom one to tune the card better.

I'll PM you my collection of 680m files and instructions. Written for the Dell card but as long as you don't try to use any of the Dell vbios files you should find some useful info in there :)
