got my m17x on 11/12/12 , It's been working perfectly since with hardly any problems (except when i had win8, clean reinstall fixed that though) , for the last week or so, i could watch movies on vlc and i'd have LOUD audio (like, laptop on 50% volume, vlc on 25% volume, and it was still very loud and legible, now i have VLC on 200% volume, laptop on full volume, (no it's not the movie, i've tried with different movies and then even youtube videos!), sometimes it comes soft, i can barely hear speaking when i'm watching shows and stuff, and then it bursts loud, like REALLY LOUD like it's supposed to be. (Especially during ads), i don't know what the problem could be. Laptops plugged in, high performance,it's on a raised platform so it's not overheated at all, problem just started today and i have no idea why. I had my laptop bursting music on full volume from my room while i was in the shower and could hear it loud and clear, now i can't even hear it sitting 5 inches away!

    things i tried
    1) restarting
    2) went to Recon3d, pressed reset to defaults
    3) watching different movies/using difference source

Any help please? i bought the laptop in Canada and i'm in Dubai for vacation so i can't even get it checked up.

I checked the Recon3D settings, found it was set on 67% 67% 50%, i cranked it up to 100% 100% and 75% for bass. it kind of worked but the audio is spiking, it's loud and then soft and then loud again for voices, and the background audio remains loud.

If it works with ads and some sounds you may want to do a clean boot to avoid software conflicts that could be causing the audio loss.

How to perform a clean startup

Let us know how it goes

I've been having some strange audio prob lately too, but on mine the problem is the audio works normally until suddenly at random the audio becomes super-loud and the windows volume control no longer has any effect on it. You can move the volume slider all the way to zero and the volume doesn't go down. Only a reboot fixes it. Anyone ever seen anything like that?
