Ok so I have an Alienware 17. I am in the process of doing a clean install and am following the Dell Install Order for the drivers for my machine from the dell site. They list Intel Dynamic Thermal Platform Driver as one to install but when I do my computer says it is not compatible. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about this driver and if it is necessary. Also on my resource disk is the Intel Rapid Start Driver. I have it installed it because from what I can gather it only applies to SSDs and not HHDs. Is that correct? Any advice would be appreciated!

    I normally do this.

    Install main Chipset drivers
    GPU drivers

Then i am having a look into device manager if there are any Exclamation marks, if yes, then i trace what it is VIA Device ID and google it.

If after installing Chipset and GPU drivers i see that Device manager has no exclamation marks or unrecognized devices, it means Windows already installed them, and i do not need to worry about anything else.

Intel Rapid start thingy is irrelevant as well to my eye, as long as it is not leaving exclamation mark in your Device manager :)

I think it has something to do with the cache drive? But again I can't be sure. That's what I found after some looking. That driver won't install for me either.

Yup, this may be the caching thingy.
This software can be used to create such a drive, i remember i saw this option before in Mr17x r4 when i entered this small Intel App.

I just hot off the phone with tech support. They actually told me I wouldn't need either driver. So I'm not going to worry with them. I will however take a look at the Device manager as well. As far as Rapid Start goes I do not have a cache drive and tech support told me that it usually worked with regular HDs in RAID configuration. My drive is actually in RAID configuration but since they do not list where in the install order to install it at and the only place I can find it is on my Resource DVD I'm not going to worry with it either.

LinkinForcer I have sent you a PM with the guide I used for my clean install, it is possibly the same guide you already have. I just went through it and added / subtracted the items applicable to mine. Hope it helps.

It's not necessary on some systems. It's not for caching... more info here.
