    Hello dear forum,
I recently bought 780m from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/fs-nvidia-gtx-780m.772071/ to replace it with my 6990m.

What exactly do I have to do? The computer keeps beeing even if i set it to PEG and disable Internal graphic device and disable sound? :(

I am willing to pay a small fee over paypal for anyone that can help me get this fixed!

Please add me on skype: patrik.kogoj and help me out, otherwise I don't know what to do :(

I got A12 unlocked but this happened
-first when i still had 6990m in comp I disabled sound card + switchable graphivs in bios (under 2nd advanced tab) so I didnt even have PEG option left
-then i installed 780m and it booted into Windows but I couldnt install nVidia drivers as it said that there is no graphic card nor did bios recognize it
-then i returned bios to defaults and restarted.... and it started BEEPing madly
-Then i switched GPU to 6990, disabled sound card and disabled internal graphic device and switched to PEG and its still beeping...

    - now im trying putting 6990m back in and disabling whole 2nd advanced tab under switchable graphic card option so I wont have the PEG option left

-update for last step: it works again, disabled sound driver in 1st advanced tab and internal graphic device in 2nd advanced menu + i disabled switchable graphics function so the PEG option doesnt show anymore and my NVIDIA GPU isnt showing in 1st bios tab where all the devices are listed (6990m shows as ATI GPU)

Which version Of Windows are you running? If you run windows 8/8.1 you must remember to disable driver signing in order to install the modifyed NVIDIA driver.

Did you follow the correct installation process to put the modded ini file in the right folder before trying to install?

check out the comment by j95, he posted a picture of the pad placement for the card and really good instructions on how to install the card. this is what i followed to get mine working. read it over and make sure you didnt miss anything. especially the link he provided on getting the sound working. really important.

where did you get your driver and modded ini? try this one by j95 at the top of the page. it worked for me

I will try again with clean install but I had no software on anyway

MSI GPU probably won't work. DON'T BUY MSI GPU FOR ALIENWARE. Return the cards and buy dell ones. We had a lot of threads like this and issues are caused by msi gpu.

id agree with this, if its an option. return it and get a dell one. iv had alot of problems with mine and i have already had to send it back because it had a defect. hopfully the give me a refund. with that said though, i believe it would work fine in my pc if it hadn't had a defect

there is a way to flash it to a different vbios but i dont think that is really the issue in the end. in fact, it ran at a lower temp and more stable with the msi vbios then a custom vbios or the dell one on my pc. but that isnt your problem right now. being msi has nothing to do with the driver not installing

What if I try to flash vbios on 780m so the bios will recognize it? Its probably true that MSI is ****ing things up

When i finally got into windows, I downloaded drivers and manually edited ini because otherwise drivers didnt even start because they couldnt find a GPU
Now they find it but they are stuck at 5%

you can try changing the vbios if thats what u want to do. i can tell you that on mine, i did not have to do that. it worked on the stock vbios. i think your problem lies where you have to disable the special features to get it to boot to windows. i think you need to figure out why it isnt letting you boot with peg.

@Buredober... I have sent unlocked VBIOS to you to flash.. Flash that (make backup of your original vBIOS incase you have to flash it back) and GPU should be recognised and drivers install properly! @j95 any ideas too? Your the original guru about this :)

i think the issue lies in the fact that you are going from an amd card to an nvidia card. there must be an extra step needed to be taken. hopfully j95 will chime in because if anyone knows it will be him

hmm.... you may need a driver installed before you can flash it? ur pc isnt going to recognize any piece of hardware before there in a driver installed telling it what the piece of hardware is.

that is always possible... if it were me i would reinstall your old card and do a windows reformat and clean install. then you will at least know you dont have conflicting drivers causing the problem.

heres a quick idea tho. if you switch your special features in ur bios back to enable, can you start your pc in safe mode and try installing the video driver in safe mode

Drivers have nothing to do with BIOS detection. If the GPU is not detected in the BIOS with PEG enabled then the GPU is either no good or incompatible. You definitely cannot flash the vBIOS if it does not show up in the BIOS.

I have never owned one and I am not an expert on M17xR3/R4, so you could be trying to use the wrong settings. If it is set to Optimus mode and boots without beeping and no GPU is visible in the BIOS then that is further indication the GPU is messed up or incompatible. In Optimus mode it may boot from the Intel HD Graphics without beeping, but until the GPU shows up in the BIOS you "cannot pass GO and cannot collect $200" with your GPU upgrade. First order of business is booting without beeping and being visible in the BIOS.

I don't think I have ever seen a good example of an MSI GPU installed in an Alienware laptop. Clevo GPUs almost always work without a hitch.

If you cannot boot with PEG enabled, then I would say the GPU is either no good or it is incompatible. My best guess is incompatible, but you would need an MSI notebook to confirm whether or not the GPU is no good. I'd return it for a refund or an exchange for a Dell or Clevo 780M.

Edit: LOL... rapid fire posting. ;)

If you cannot get into the BIOS, pull the GPU and let it boot from Intel iGPU. I would give up on trying to get the MSI GPU to work at this point. There seems to be a problem of either incompatibility or bad GPU.

i dont beleive it not compatible unless the fact that his came with a amd gpu stock makes a difference from mine with a nvidia stock?

What the Alienware laptop had before (AMD versus NVIDIA) makes no difference. If the vBIOS on the MSI GPU is not compatible, then the GPU itself will be incompatible for all intents and purposes until one can find a way to flash it. No BIOS detection means no flashing. Flashing with a Dell or Clevo vBIOS might make it compatible, but that is just a guess. It also might make matters worse if the vBIOS flashing soft-bricks the GPU and makes it to where it cannot be returned. Doing that could render the GPU unbootable in any machine and require removal of the chip, manually programming and re-soldering.

The MSI vBIOS may be a UEFI/GOP only vBIOS. If you have an M17xR3 (my guess since you had 6990M) this may be the problem due to lack of UEFI/GOP support in the older BIOS. I know nothing about MSI laptops, so I have no idea what kind of BIOS/vBIOS arrangement they have. If you read up in the Kepler vBIOS mod thread at Tech|Inferno, you will see posts suggesting that MSI are kind of out there and different compared to Alienware and Clevo. ASUS and MSI are both proprietary with respect to their laptop video cards.

Best option here is to get a known compatible Dell or Clevo 780M and not cause any harm to what might still be a usable GPU installed in a compatible MSI notebook.
