I'd be more impressed if it showed up on epp.
-
LOL
It's cheaper than the r2 on the US site! On the UK site the r3 is double the price! How do they get away with it? -
Now it's on epp but it says "Call for pricing".
-
Wow, a fully loaded R3 is cheaper than a fully loaded R2. Not impressed with the GPU OR the CPU options. If it's a gamers extreme system, why is there no XM CPU? Also noticed the SSD Prices went up for the R3. Pretty cool that it has 4 DIMMS though. Maybe the only thing I like about the R3. At this point I'd take my R2 over any R3 looking at the current available specs.
-
.... but imagine how much more upgradable the r3 is compared to the r2 where you've hit a roof. Only advantage I can think of right now
-
Hmm. That's weird I checked around 10 minutes ago and I epp spec'd it.
IMO, the greatest thing about this M17x R3 -> battery life. Claimed 6 hours but idk how well that will hold up. If it's true it can squeeze out 5-6 hours, then this thing will fly off the shelves... -
Possibly true. We'll have to wait till somone gets one to see if there is a second MXM slot. If not, thats no good. Then we'll have to hope that an XM CPU is released by dell, because if Dell doesn't release it, there is some serious doubt that there will be any bios support. And as far as my system, I pretty much have hit the roof. Not sure what I couild do to it to improve it's performance
Though I'm always looking for ways
-
Won't be long now for an NBR review, I am assuming someone is sitting there feverishly going through one now...
This all make me the think the M18x is even more likely as this is fairly underwhelming *on paper*.... specs remain to be seen. -
m17x r3 seems to be nearly the same price as a m15x of the same specs...

I don't think the performance of the R3 VS the R2 is going to be that spectacular. The price is downright awesome though, and the HMDI-in would save me lugging my monitor around whenever I take my PS3 anywhere.
-
Ya the HDMI-IN feature is definitely nice.
For some reason i can't even select the 3D screen now, maybe they're just changing some things and they will add the 6970M -
I just chatted with a rep and of course they say that they have no idea when the wireless HD and the 6970M will be available.
-
You are right, the 3D screen is not an option anymore.
-
why have a 3d screen with no option for 3d bluray player?
-
3D bluray player? That means nothing. Any bluray can read disc that are recorded in 3D.

And now presenting....
The "Alienware" G73jw........could it be any more obvious who they were targeting with this laptop?! -

Glad the RAM issue has been figured, guess somebody up there was playing with us knowing we're refreshing every minute
Side note: with the R3 release hope we won't be pushed to the bottom of the drawer with the R1s.

talked to a rep last week at FRY's. They are getting rid of all M17xR.2's in favor of something new. Going by today to see if I can get an ETA but pretty sure it's the new R3. Any word on other resellers? like Newegg?
-
yeaaaa, no 3d crap anymore, that's a relief for me. maybe they will bring the 1920 x 1200 RGB back
-
If R3 is to compete against G73, than there's no real question about higher end GPU/CPU options. The Asus is slim and silent. To beat it AW would have to sacrifice the performance. We already know that 2920xm runs very hot hitting mid 80's with the best cooling options available at our disposal up-to-date. A combination of 2920xm+6970m would require some cooling, it can even trip the 240W PSU in a fully packed system.
I guess, we should accept the system for what it really is. -
they're supposed to call me to complete my order in 15 minutes. i had mine configured in the cart with the 3d display. we will see how that works out.
-
I will never accept it, damn you dell
-
eh....................That's the R2
-
Looks like they did a cut & paste job from the R2's Tech Specs to the R3's.
-
thats just the old R2 comment, website hasnt' been fully updated properly yet.. (notice how the cpu is 940xm)

It only comes with a 150W AC adapter.........have fun with that!

You can buy a 240W one later on along with a 9cell battery etc.

Really though, this machine can hold 32gb of ram (2x16gb). It's made for portability (6hrs) I guess, using 1gpu either 460m/6870 with integrated cpu makes that possible. I don't believe there's a xm lineup for this system either. That 20k+ 3d mark score the demo achieved is possible with this system fully speccd. I honestly wasn't shocked by the score, I think that the apu integration method is solidly capable of producing such feats. Still not as powerful tho, I think the beast is commin soon (m18x).........
-
No when choosing the 2820QM, it comes with 240W.

How can I get that view for the configuration page? I am only getting a list one that I really dislike.
And it is not 2x 16GB of ram but rather 4x 8GB -
They're certainly leaving the door open for something bigger\better like an M18x... why wouldn't they have announced something like that, even just a tease, as CES tho?

here you go scook9
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System -
But don't the Asus come with a subwoofer ???
Which does NOT seem to be the case of the R3...
Just a thought; if R3 is togo→MM-machine; then:goto►where's-the-bass.com...
-
Just checking, but the 3D screen would require an nVidia graphics card, correct?
I'm assuming there using nVision, so you'd be stuck with the 460m in order to use it. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I still see the list view
On Linux using Firefox......
Also did anyone else notice that they dropped the R2 price $100 then raised the price of the CF upgrade by $115? lol
The wireless upgrade pricing on the R3 is also ludicrous! $70 for a 6300? I think they just made it more expensive because they 6250 was already $60 and has a lower number...... -
Top left corner under the (1) Adjust Performance tab -> Switch to Icon View.
-
So who is going to be the first to order one and play with it?
We need benchmarks...
-
No one order!!!
maybe that way dell might wake up and offer crossfire, 1200p RGB and extreme cPU
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Nice as it would be, I do not see them redesigning a laptop due to the boycott of a few hundred users
And I do not have that option to change the view
-
talked with rep on the phone, they couldn't complete my order until the 3d display feature is re-listed. hopefully that doesn't mean jacking up the price on me. I was confident dell would offer 3d for under $2000 and i was right.
-
Dual Boot to Windows? ;þ
-
Don't know if I'm going to get modded for being off topic, but I noticed that the M17x R2 got a line added under its description stating its being offered with Dual GTX 460m's. There's no option to configure it with the GTX 460m, but on the AW site it's being listed as it will be offered. Any thoughts?
Also, in the M17x R3 description it says SLI GTX 285's are available. Is this wrong? In the configurator there is no option for SLI GTX 285's. Overall I'm confused. And the M17xR3 looks a LOT thinner in the picture than the R2 does. Wonder if that may be accountable to no SLI. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think an R2 with dual GTX 460m's would be alot more popular than the new R3......
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya it is fine in windows....Linux fail -
The M17x r2 specs got mixed up with the r3, they may fix it soon.
*NEW* M17xR3 Available for order... details and discussion here
