Thats a pretty large discount.. I'm going to give them a call and demand to get it.

They will have to cancel your current order, resubmit a new one and then you're probably a few weeks later on EDD
-
I actually am happy they're not selling enough. gotta think twice before making an ultimate gaming laptop into an ultimate clone of asus g73... what kind of business strategy is it to count on 3d monitor only and still do higher price than asus and expect people to buy it. $1500-1600 is how much does my config cost for asus whereas same one will cost me 2200 on alienware (not including discount) and well i see diff here.
-
wow, the $1699 a pretty good deal, but yeah, will be pushed to the back of the line. With the CPU upgrade and Blu Ray drive, figure I missed out on $100 savings right there.

-
However, before I order again I'm considering waiting a few weeks for the dust to settle at dell. -
They also increased the 460M to $75.00 from $50.00 -

If they are giving a discount of $250 on a brand new item, it is not selling as well as they hoped haha
-
i do not recall of any actions that could mean discount on maxed out r2s and they only launched the r3 and already r doing the discount stuff - doesnt sound like they sold so much that they wanted to share the love with buyers

Thinking (within the UK anyhow) that you can get away with selling a new system that isn as good as its predecessor for MORE money deserves a slap in the face.....
Tell you what, they better do some serious discounting over here in England cos at £1799, thats one heck of a big lead balloon.... -

That is the best way to get a result, boycott! lol
Hit them where it hurts, wallet
Maybe we will see those upgraded GPUs sooner rather than later now -

I was out (not that i was ever in anyway) as soon as it was discovered to be non dual. That and lack of RGBLED.
Methinks someone in marketing wont have a job pretty soon..... -
hp offers a deep discount within the first week or so of their envy launch (usually a $300-400 coupon). That's how I got my 17 3d for $1200. Figure they do that to promote the brand and build hype. Maybe Dell is following suit? I'm wondering if my XPAND 103 glasses will work with the notebook.
-
If they add something as simple as the GTX485M, they will sell a lot more that's for sure.
-
-
Price of the R3 has dropped $400NZD here. Currently $600 off the R2 as well.

I thought the 3D screen would only work with an Nvidia GPU. So even though the 6970M will be very powerful, it won't work with the 3D screen.
Though I don't really want the 3D it's the only 120Hz screen available on that laptop.
The 485M is really the only powerful alternative for this laptop in the short term. -

alienware rep canceled my original orders and for $50 extra went from the AMD card to the Nvidia card and got the 120Hz screen with the 3D bundle "for free".
good pic up skull mohawk dude.
Only bad thing is my EDD is now 2-12-11...but the alienware rep said there is a lot of cushion built in there.
Slight difference when going from 60Hz to 75Hz but may be my imagination. -
As far as I can tell, the M17x R3 has everything the Envy 17 3D has but more? Better GPU, Better display with 1200 screen.... so the only downside to the M17x R3 is the "looks?"Does not have the sexy, slim metalic etching...but that's about it? If so, then....the M17x R3 does look tempting...

If i were to config an m17x r3 to the same as the NZ site, dya wanna know how much it costs???? well im gonna tell you now....£3,558.99gbp or $7,331.95nzd
Thats a MASSIVE difference....so dya still think you have it bad?
I know you cant CHOOSE the spec, but you are still getting beter value per spec than us brits....
BUT, bottom line is that Dell are sticking it to everyone outside the US and its not right....I feel for you man, especially IF you wanted one of these R3's...i certainly dont.
its a 1080 or 3d at best....1200p is the rgbled on the R2.
Sorry guys, I just had to bump my own post so that people realise how much Dell are stinging the UK guys....just take a look. I have just config's two systems based on the only available spec on the NZ site (didnt change anything on the NZ specs) and I matched the specs and put them into the UK site.....
The difference is approx $2200nzd or £1100gbp or $1700usd.......for the SAME SPEC - thats how much MORE we have to pay in the UK.
S H O C K I N G !!! - truly outrageous pricing. No matter what way you cut it. You guys in the states can get TWO systems for the price of ONE going by UK prices..... -
There's a second 120Hz screen option listed in the R3 manual not associated with nVidia, that for whatever reason Dell isn't offering yet. I doubt it's just because of the HD6870M. -
120hz is nice... but that measely 460 ain't going that much above 35fps in most games so... whats the point?
you'd need dual gpus to get above 60fps... 120hz would only shine then... and vsync FINALLY won't be limitd to 60fps ... -
Then later get the M18x ...eventually...lol.

(mind you, thats happening already which aint a shocker)
-
My biggest dislike about the R3 is the size and quality of the screen. Even if I did get over that, the price just makes me laugh. I am tempted by the R2's currently on sale however, but I'm just too interested to see a possible M18x to make a purchase at present. I suspect I'm not alone in that, which is why Dell is chasing down leaks of M18 info and cutting costs of M17 models already. -
How come they change 460 price to 75$ instead of 50$ and also took optimus out of description?
-
Ok 2 hrs on the phone with customer service, got them to give me the 3d bundle discount as a refund to my dell preferred account so that I didn't have to cancel my order and redo it and loose the 3-5 days of shipping / etc. Thanks to the first person that caught that price change. I do hope its the last discount change otherwise I may just cancel and sit on my money for another 5 years...
-
can't wait for someone to receive the first r3
... they're gonna have a wave of questions coming at them!! so get ready to bench n test that beast out!!
Let's hope it doesn't have too too many problems... although that's almost inevitable (throttling, ssd speeds etc...) -
DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
If Dell actually gets their crap straight I might actually get one some day
and if they don't I may just take my money elsewhere. I'm hoping they do as I like the product just hate the company. And you're welcome driazen, that was me that found the deal.

...................what the * are you talking about? Have you even spent time with a 120hz screen?
FPS does not matter. It's how fast the screen is refreshing. Try spinning real fast on a game with a 60hz screen and then the same thing in a REAL true 120hz screen - I'd bet then you will know how a 120hz screen really works. -
^^^^ woah there buddy... easy now... why so hostile??
#1. I am talking about 120hz screens.
#2. Yes i have spent time with one, I own several.
#3.FPS does matter.
#4.I know its how fast the screen is refreshing.
#5. i have tried spinning really fast in games many times.
The real question is: Have you, "armoured" , spent time with a 120hz screen AND a machine capable of 100-120fps with vsync on? I'll answer that for you, no, you haven't, or you wouldn't have said what you just said.
I never said 120hz isn't good.... its great. but you're only getting half of its potential... if frames and screen refresh rates are BOTH 120fpx/hz ... The smoothness is impeccable... if you're getting 30fps and try to spin around... you can have a 1000000hz screen and it'll still get chopped up if you move fast enough...because the gpu isn't pushing the frames to support it...
sheesh... -
Sure I had a machine capable of +100 fps.......it doesn't have to be crysis.....
Loaded up CS:Source with Vsync on @ 120hz and compared it to BC2 running at 35 fps @120hz .....no difference.
Turned on 60hz.....BIG difference. -
well im sorry you don't see the difference. I do... especially when the fps dip down to the lower 20s in some instances... which they will with a 460... anyways... moving on.
-
The hostility comes from reading this entire thread and seeing countless people sh*tting on 120hz like it's the plague.
I have not posted anything and decided to keep my silence throughout this thread; however I just couldn't stand by seeing your post implying that the 460m + 120hz screen under 60fps would be useless - not the case. -
Problem here is that sight and frames per second and playability is completely subjective...move on...no point arguing on something that is completely based on the user.
-
ok i never said it was useless... i love my 120hz screens... what i was trying to say was that a 120hz would be better suited with a machine capable of 100+fps (120fps ideally, Vsync on) in my opinion..i'm aloud to have my opinion right? (at high settings... 120fps on low settings is crap)...
what i was dissing was the weak gpu options offered in the r3 right now, considering what is available...not so much the 120hz screen -
-
-
ok this is getting blown out of proportion... yes the 460m (mobile card, thanks villosa) is a good card, i experienced its capabilities first hand...but theres much much better out..even Dell's 5870 surpasses it when gaming and it was out for quite some time before it... yes it can handle games at 120fps on low settings... i clearly **should've** mentioned i was talking about max settings... something r2 owners are used to lolll... my bad ..
at least we are on the same page about the fps and hz though! props to thatPeace n love guys, peace n love
.. i know everyone is anxious to get their new BEAST
.. woooosa woooosa
-
[Regarding TRUE 120hz monitors, (and future TRUE 120hz LCD HDTVs) these displays will indeed improve your gaming experience (few exceptions). Because the screen is refreshing 120 times a second, the image projected will seem smoother and decrease tearing, even when gaming at below 60fps." -
I ordered My R3 on the 11th, just saw the $225 discount today, called up and tried to get it applied, they re-fused to apply if I didn't cancel the order. So they made me cancel it, and re-order, which furthered my delivery date, I asked for free overnight shipping, which again they re-fused to do. If they didn't make me cancel my order I would of had no problem with shipping. I found this quit ridiculous on dells behalf. Even spoke with the supervisors who said since there is a discount they wont do overnight free shipping.
But alas, I re-ordered anyway, Im just furious at this point. -
