Thread link where this issue is currently being discussed.
    forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/616030-alienhead-led-works-ok-only-work-screen-light-only-m17xr3.html

    This is the question-:

How is the Alienhead logo on your lid lighted up?

Some have a special PCB light board attached to the inner chassis behind the Alienhead. The glow is of constant brightness and doesnt turn off when the lid is closed.

Others have found that their Alienhead is lighted up by the reflected light of the LCD display backlight. The brightness of Alienhead is proportionate to display backlight brightness setting. When the lid is closed the Alienhead glow turns off completely since the display backlight turns off.

So we are trying to find out why this dedicated PCB board is missing in some and present in others.

It seems to be random but the ratio of there two variation is 50:40 according to the poll so far. That is high. No pattern has been established with display type/model, time of built etc. It has nothing to do with software either.

Hence i have been pursuing Dell to explain why this has been the case. They have come forward to investigate by communicating with the design team as well as the Level 3 personnel. So kindly email [email protected] the nature of your Alienhead lighting along with your service tag. Attach any photos available when your screen was opened etc. I am not suggesting you to open for this purpose but if do have it open please send pictures too. Otherwise just state the nature of the lighting mechanism in the email.

They would like to cross check and provide accurate answers and if there is an issue they can formulate a remedy. Kindly cooperate for the benefit of all R3 owners.
    Thank you.

Why didn't you just post this as a response in that thread?

I have posted the same on page 9 of the above link. So i figured some may not read all they way up till that point or be confused with the different views. So i made a thread to alert and keep it simple. If they wish to dwelve deeper they may read the link more.

Is there any issue in doing so?
