Both work fine but the HD6990m is much more powerfull.

If you can find some coupons you could use those for some discount or contact a rep.

depends how long you want it to last. A 6990m is around 50% more powerfull than the 560m as slick said, and Its nice to be able to run everything maxxed out easily. :)

Just call 1-800-Alienware and haggle them. They are like a car dealership in that you can drive the price down by being persistent. I got the following configuration (I did not buy it but gave the quote to someone else and allowed them to buy it) for $1600 shipped.

    M17X-R3 (Space Black)
    i7-2670QM
    ATI 6990m
    8GB 1333MHZ RAM
    750GB 7200RPM HDD
    1 Year Warranty

one other thing to note for the OP, get the 1080p screen if it isn't part of the package. The 1600x900 screen isn't as good and it isn't easily swapped out after

Well, everyone haggles differently so I can't go too in-depth. There is a thread somewhere in the Dell/Alienware forum with some very helpful tips about ordering.

Here's what I did to get that price:

    1. I called and told them I wanted to buy an M17x from the Outlet BECAUSE I could NOT afford a new one. Hopefully they will respond to that with an offering of a good deal on a NEW M17x (this is what happened with me).

    2. Tell them that you need such and such specs and $_____ is your budget. Hopefully they will try to work something out with you

    3. After the specs have been configured, and the price is too high, tell them that price is way too high. They will probably either try to throw something in, or lower the price a little bit.

    4. Just remember you are the one with the cash and they are trying to get it out of your pockets. They are trying to convince YOU to buy their product. They are working off commission so they really want a sale.

    5. Be prepared to end the phone call...they will call back. My original quote for the above config was $1769 but I told him my budget was $1600 flat and apologized that I could not afford it during the first phone call. The next day, he called back and said, "Hi sir, the price I quoted for you yesterday was the laptop with a 2 year warranty. I can give you the price of $1600 with the standard 1 year warranty." Of course, that is a lie but he needed a cover story to make sure I would not continue haggling further.
