Graphics Driver - Verde 295.73 Driver - GeForce
LINK IS FINALLY CORRECT. This link points to the notebook 64-bit drivers. Sorry I fail at posting

I for one am hoping it fixes the HDMI-in issue on M17x r3's.

    Double DOH!!! Thanks Snake!

I wonder why the heck Nvidia needs to make separate ~200 MB downloads for desktop and notebook video drivers... most of the differences are in the INF files anyway...

One good thing, the 295.73's have solved the problem of hanging P0 (3d) clocks in the 580M which contributed to higher GPU temps with the 295.53's. Otherwise, they seem about the same for general use and benchmarking (3dMark11 and Unigine Heaven). I'll be interested to hear reports about performance in Skyrim and the other targeted games.

Yeah no longer hanging at full power which is great. Not got Skyrim so can't report there unfortunately.

Could anyone do me a solid and try HDMI-in? I'm at work right now but I want to try it out so bad! I know there was a few complaints put in to Nvidia about HDMI-in not working since 280.xx, and they said they would work on it for future releases.

Here's a modded inf for the r1 users with gtx260's as most of us had trouble while upgrading drivers and the other modded inf's posted gave us an error :p

Ok, Ambient Occlusion for Diablo 3 made me bite.

Drivers work fine with Skyrim, maybe a few FPS better than 290 beta, everything else seems fine.

Thanks man. I know it doesn't bother many, because gaming performance tends to be more important (and it is!). But, it is really annoying that a hardware feature that is built in to our laptops is non-functional, unless you want to be on a 6 month out of date driver.

Just a heads up too, I know its mentioned in the change log, but this update really fixed whatever was borked on the Mass Effect 3 demo. I watched one of my co-workers play it before and after the update on his old R2 with SLI, and it's night and day.

 The HDMI Input function appears to be non functional. It shows the input for a half second and then goes black. All you get after that is the sound.

I have an R1 with SLI 280s. The new verde driver does not work, I believe I need modified INFs. The one you posted seems to be corrupt. Can you reupload?

    Thanks!

I haven't gotten around to doing a lot of reading regarding different clocks and P states on the 580m but this driver appears to be much better. Last night I was playing Batman Arkham Asylum with PhysX enabled and my GPU was running at 71C. Tonight with these drivers in 3D it's at 65C and the performance is still excellent.

Just installed this and Windows Aero stops working. Ms diags tell me that 'windows desktop manager is not enabled'. Checked the service and it is running. tried stopping and restarting (and a bunch of MS TID's) to no avail. Most point to a driver issue. Rollback the driver to the last 295 beta and it starts working again. My windows experience index on the video sections goes up by .1 (7.6) on the .73 driver. Anyone else with this driver?

Could I also request this modded inf for the R1 260M please? I've spent a good 30 minutes trying to do it myself and failing hard.
People on this site have been real life-savers before and I thank you in advance.

EDIT: I should say I tried the files XIII kindly put up but they wouldn't extract for me either.

Thanks to the both of you it's now working. Just in case it helps anyone else, I first just used SlateJones's file. That got me past the HW check but a few minutes into the install it said driver installation failed. By then XIII had uploaded his new file and using that the installation then worked.

So thanks again to you both and +1 rep!

I installed the driver last night and didn't have any problems with Aero. :(

There's a thread for the driver and no one else is reporting those symptoms. Maybe you could uninstall your driver, reboot in safe mode and run driversweeper to make sure it's really gone and then install 295.73 using the custom option where you can check the box for "clean install"? Your older driver may be messing it up.

If it helps, I was running the latest driver from Dell support. I installed this one right over the top of it but I chose custom install and check the box for clean installation.

    Hello,

Im having problems installing this driver after an un-install with driver sweeper. Its not recognizing my 580M. What can I do to install it?

    thank you,

    timurStas

forgot to mention but I tried both the inf files posted here - I'm not sure I was using them correctly but I just replaced the original driver ones with them.

Thanks, that is where I started but this morning it said 'thread closed' and i couldn't post so I started this thread.
Looks like another weirdie with my machine though. I tried clearing out all the driver files and a 'clean' install but still the same. .51 aero works, .73 it stops. Probably something specific to my machine. I've had so many problems over the last two months i've had it. Since dell re-installed the OS after a HD failure my IDT sound fails to load on boot. Run the driver install
and it works every time until a reboot. On that one i've tried a bunch of stuff but strangely even a system restore fails telling me it cannot access the files (and it might be my virus checker). Guess i should get back onto dell but I'm sick to death of all the problems so this machine is going to have a serious 'accident' soon....

thanks, tried that, still same though. Not worth messing anything else up for something I dont really care about (aero), just wanted to see if anyone else saw this. The dell beta is also fine.

I was going from the Dell 285 beta to 295.73. I didn't have 295.51 so that's probably the difference. There's gotta be a remnant of 295.51 that's not getting cleaned out or overwritten, though. That's the only way you could get those symptoms. Did you try Driver Sweeper or one of those cleaning utilities after removing all the NVidia software? I suspect a DLL or registry key is getting left in there and messing up your 295.73 install.

Maybe it has something to do with Optimus. Jody and I both have 3D displays therefore the GPU is always on and detected. I have no experience with optimus enabled systems so I don't know the specific driver installation procedures.

I want to tip my hat to Nvidia, these drivers are *amazing* on my M17x

I'm playing Skyrim on Ultra at 60 FPS, 40 in the Ratway. Everything looks very sharp and smooth. I'm very happy.

Diablo 3 is almost completely smooth now. The lag when attacking people is pretty much gone.

my HDMI-in also still works. Played a little Xbox 360 just to test it out and it performed flawlessly.

If you're not using these drivers, you need to! Get 'em ASAP!

Just for fun I cranked up the ambient occlusion on Skyrim and it was surprisingly playable... Framerate was about 25-60 depending on where I was. Not quite as smooth as I'd like, and to be honest I can't really tell the difference. Lights and shadows look a little "warmer" but other than that, it's hard to notice. I'm not sure if I'll leave it enabled.

Same goes with Diablo 3... I can't really say ambient occlusion makes the game look any better. My framerate is definitely lower though, low 40's instead of a solid 60.

No kidding blink_c!!! I want to get my HDMI Input working pronto! I wish I knew what was different about his machine. Mine works for a half second and then goes black. I tried it with my PS3. He stated that he's using an XBox 360. I will try mine and see if that works. The only other thing I'm thinking is maybe it's to do with the resolution that the input is set to. My PS3 may have been set for 720P. I set it that way on my 62 inch TV because the lettering on the screen gets too small when I set it to 1080. (It's a four or five year old DLP and it's 720P native). This calls for more experimentation since I now know it works for others. Now I'm on a mission. Queue dramatic music. :mad2:

Have you changed any settings? Do you have the 120Hz screen or 60? I just tried it, and I get the video for a second, then black screen (the issue that been reported multiple times). I want mine to work if yours is! Thanks in advance!

Nope, no special settings. I have the regular 60hz non-3D screen though. It looks like Jody has the 120hz 3D system too and is having similar problems. If I had to guess, I'd say these drivers may not be compatible with the 3D display on the M17x. Maybe?

That's probably right. Just my luck. :(

I thought this over a lot today because it bugs me. I was looking forward to being able to plug my xbox and ps3 into my laptop and use the screen. I don't ever get to use my consoles because my wife is usually watching the television set that they are connected to. In the end, I decided that having excellent and up to date video drivers was more important that using my laptop as a glorified 17 inch TV set so there's absolutely no way I'm going back to a Dell driver.

Say, blink_c, did you happen to try disabling 3D and then use the HDMI input? I don't think I tried that. I tried switching to the HDMI input before pluggin in the console, I tried booting with the console already plugged in, and I tried unplugging and plugging it back in again, but I don't think I messed with the 3D settings. I also noticed that my 3D capability disappeared at one point. The settings were gone from the Nvidia control panel and everything. I had to reboot to get it back. The 3D is probably the culprit here. At least with these drivers it is.

I don't normally have the 3D enabled. I only turn it on when I'm getting ready to play something in 3D, then I turn it back off. I've actually never tried the opposite, having 3D enabled when doing HDMI-in.

Could a few more people, 3D and non please try out the HDMI-in for some more results?

    So far:
    120Hz Screen HDMI-in works = 0 out of 2
    60Hz Screen HDMI-in works = 1 out of 1
