I can confirm the new drivers have a massive improvement in Skyrim. Outside I had around 45, now its 55-60. Inside I had 30-110. Now it´s 40-120. This is with ultra settings AAx2. (btw I always do the same benchmark walk in skyrim so I'm pretty sure about this improvement).

Edit: Skyrim is the only game on which I notice a difference. BF3, Batman: AC, Rage, Crysis 2 all seem to perform the same.

I always have my screen set to 60Hz. I'm guessing that won't help since my input wasn't working. Mine defaults to 60 and changes to 120 when something 3D comes up on the screen. :( I tried it at 60Hz. When I get home from work I will try 60Hz with 3D disabled but I don't have much hope that it'll work.

The last time I had mine working was a couple months ago, using my 360. Since then I've updated my drivers, changed the display to 120hz, and a few other things. A week ago, I noticed my friend's PS3 wasn't working on HDMI in.

I'll try to play around with it this weekend and see if I can turn up anything. I'd like to see a solution, but it isn't worth having to use older DELL drivers.

Could anyone test crysis 2 with the new drivers? I seem to be having micro stutters. The fps is the same, but the micro stuttering makes playing crysis 2 really annoying. Switching back to my old drivers fixed the problem..

With the other newer drivers, the only way to get HDMI in to work was by not installing the 3d vision software. Gonna go use driver sweeper and all that fun stuff and see if I can get it to work again. ;)

Using these two files combined, I was able to install these latest drivers on my two M17X R1s with GTX280Ms in SLI. You two seriously kick for editing these files. Can't thank you enough!

With regard to the "HDMI-in" issue, you might want to look at this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/621166-hdmi-out-stopped-working-2.html

On the M18x the issue is merely a mechanical problem with HDMI- out, not related to software or drivers. Perhaps it is on the M17x R3 as well relating to HDMI-in. (I don't have an R3 to check, but thought I would at least offer this as a possibility for exploration.)

Guys with R1, are you able to install the 295.xx drivers for the 9400m?

I tried without success... leading to BSODs and bad framerates when trying to watch movies and stuff with only that card enabled in the bios.

Thanks for the link, but that's not the issue with the M17x r3s. The problem is that the display will show for about a second, then it goes to a black screen. The audio continues to work, but no video. This has been an issue on the r3s since the 280.xx drivers. Last one it worked on was 280.26 I think. That's why the one guy that said he got it to work blew my mind!

To me, it's behaving like it doesn't like the resolution or can't sync the picture or something so it immediate switches it off. It acts like a timing thing so it makes sense that it is having trouble with the 3D screen. It also might explain why NVidia folks claim that it works fine on their M17x. Maybe they don't have the 3D version. That's all just pure speculation on my part, though. I will play around with it some more.

I wonder if there are any NVidia people who hang out on NBR that might be willing to work with us a little?

I really wish Nvidia wouldn't make us jump through hoops to get these drivers to work on the R1. Oh well, at least some of you can get up and running!

Did you do the full un-install before trying to install it?
    - Uninstall all NVIDIA related things
    - Reboot
    - Use CCleaner to remove any remaining NVIDIA references in registry
    - Reboot
    - Move the inf file over and replace
    - Install using Advance/Custom install
    - Choose Clean Install
    - Profit?

It may have something to do with your hybrid chipset. I think katalin has already posted a way of updating the NVIDIA drivers with 260M and 285M on the R1 effectively. It may require some INF tweaking.

Here are a couple of threads with info related to issues updating your 260M drivers, but I know there are others... http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/619820-nvidia-whql-driver-285-62-a.html#post8016490 - http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/623314-help-modding-new-nvidia-drivers-m17x-r1.html. If I delete the NVIDIA stuff, will I still be able to see my screen? Not sure how exactly this works.. I don't know how to tweak .inf files.. :(

My Alienware ownership began with the M17x R2 and I did not have the NVIDIA chipset with hybrid IGP. I might give you wrong information about what works best, which is why I only posted the links. May want to PM katalin_2003 with a link here to see if he can steer you right. There may be a special way of modding the INF with the hybrid IGP. There may also be something posted on NVIDIA Forums.

Edit: this info from other R1 owners may work

    SKyrim just auto-updated.....

Do any of you know if it fixes the Error-51 issue after going to 295.73.

I don't wanna go though the process of upgrading and finding out that it doesn't work and then rolling back again

the nvwi inf i posted on page 3 of this thread should work for the 260m, 280m, and 285m. Works with both sli and hybrid graphics. If you guys are still having problems, try just using one of the infs supplied in the thread, then try the other, then try both. but remember to put back the originals when switching.
I dont know the difference between the nvdm or nvwi files, I just know that the only one that ever worked for me was the modded nvwi inf file. the nvdm inf never worked on my r1.
    Hope this helps.

Well, it depends, the number of pages is dictated by the posts per page layout you choose in your User CP (on the top left).
Per example, i use a 50 posts per page layout and this thread is almost two pages for me.

I've never had that error, but I sure as hell am getting a bunch of crash to desktop problems anymore. Trying to figure out if it's a mod problem with Skyrim, or if it's these drivers. Might go back to the beta's I was using beforehand. Probably a mod conflict, or perhaps I need to adjust some things in my .ini files for Skyrim.

Frustrating , but I'd still rather game on my Alienware R1, than an Xbox.

Help, how do you fix the issue when the Nvidia Control Panel shows the game directory path instead the game's name?

    For example:

    NVCP shows "C:\program files\konami\pes2011.exe"

when it should show "Pro evolution soccer 2011" or pes2011.exe, but not the full path directory

By the way: waiting for Alan Wake sli drivers

every nvidia driver I've used has had that issue. I've also had issues where the control panel has misidentified .exe games... especially for games with generic executables like "game.exe" and so forth.

I've never worked with a GeForce product before so I'm not sure if it's any different; can you overlap-install the driver -- that is, just simply install the new driver? Or should I uninstall the old one and then install the new one?

There must be a fix for the thing of the directory path.

PS: and fn+f7 doesn't work with this drivers.

Extract it first and paste it here:
    " C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\295.73\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver"

    And replace original file.

Just to add my experiences, this driver is by far the best one I have used. Temps are lower, throttling is almost non-existent, games are 'smoother' and frame rates are up! Batman Arkham City now plays superb, and with physx on max I'm now seeing all the extra 'stuff'. Assassins creed : Revelations still throttles to P1 occasionally but easy fix (nvidia inspector), and as long as I prop it up no more P8 throttle. All my other games were fine before but it hasn't broken any of them which the last beta did. Always moaning about nvidia so good job guys!
