Thought I was missing the point but the character limit makes me feel like I'm spamming a BBS - that is what it was considered if you strung more than 3 posts back then :D

Installed 301.40 without a hitch. Didnt need the .inf for them to install properly. Slight increase in frame rates on Batman AC (average 32fps/extreme settings/stock gpu clocks/lvl3 cpu) but noticed that they have a slight latency problem when checked with LatencyMon.

Anyone else notice latency with these?

Another thing....considering I'm running a modded vBios @ 0.87v, with default clocks & the stock .inf that was included in the 301.40 download, gpu-z is telling me that gpu voltage is hitting 0.92v! - from what I read on the host website's disclaimer, they said "The modified INFs do NOT have any tweaks that modify the power usage, performance or anything that would create more heat/power from the GPU" - fair enough but I'm NOT using the modded .inf, just the one that came with the driver download!!!! - even if I WAS using the modded .inf, how come my cards are running at 0.92v if the above statement was true? - and I havent applied ANY OC to my gpu's......

If you have the modded vBIOS, which I believe you do, that is the standard voltage for stock P0 (3D) clock speeds (and P1 with the two states equalized). It's working exactly as it should. Otherwise, it would be 0.87v instead of 0.92v. GPU-Z is showing your GPU is running in P0 mode. If it were in a lower 2D state, the voltage would be lower as well as the clock speeds.

Guys, it's a false reading, but not unique to GPU-Z. HWINFO64 reports the same thing from time to time and in its Max column. The modified 580M vbios's come in two forms -- one @ .87v, the other @ .92v. I'm using a modified-modified vbios with 3d (P0) clocks set to .87v. But with the 301.40 drivers, the GPU-Z voltage reading will jump to .92v when the app is opened, but then settle down to the real setting in short order. If you run a program that uses the 3d clocks, you will see that both GPU-Z and HWINFO64 report the video voltage accurately, see, i.e., linked 3dMark11 screenshot. I'm guessing the 301.40 driver scans the vbios and is picking up the max allowable voltage setting and falsely reporting that as currently active. It's a bit disconcerting at first, but there is no doubt that the .87v vbios is running at .87v, not .92v, based both on temps and o/c capacity.

I do have the modded vbios but im not running the .92v version so I am slightly baffled why with these drivers, I am hitting 0.92v....I was under the assumption that to get that voltage, I would have had to flash the 0.92v modded vbios??? - which I havent!

That makes sense! - thanks for the info/explanation Rev.....I was wondering if it was a false reading as couldnt see why it would be correct using 0.87v modded vbios.....repped!

Hmm, that's interesting. Thanks for the insight, Brother Rev.

I wonder if those inaccurate readings might explain why the 3XX.XX Verde drivers get a little bit flaky in a more extreme overclock situation... they work great for me in games, but they are unstable (for me anyway) in benching with an 850/1800 or 860/1800 overclock.

Anybody having issues with this driver, such as TDR errors or blue screens?

The last set of beta drivers weren't so stable for my M17x R3 and 580m... I'd like to hear some feedback before I rush to install these :)

Good feedback has already posted over the past couple of days in this thread if you care to have a look. If you're gaming (not benching with an aggressive OC) these worked fine for me. I have TDR issues with them when I pump the clocks up to 850/1800 or 860/1800, so I went back to using my trusty Verde 295.51 drivers for that reason only.

Well, @dellcares was a washout. I got a reply asking for details, supplied them (what a pain in multiple messages!) and they responded - my case has been updated with the details and they would get back to me. Nothing for 2 days even after a chase this morning.

Machine has gotten much worse with sudden lockups now, even on the Dell driver so I made that call to support.

Same old set of tests and getting copies of my mem dumps so I asked about a replacement. 'you have had 3 engineer calls?' he asks. 'Yes'. 'OK I'll ask about getting you a replacement or a refund'. He comes back on and tells me it is approved - and I'll get an R4.

THANK YOU DELL, YOU SOLD ME A PUP BUT ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING!

If it wasn't such an awesome piece of kit when it works I'd have gone for my money back but I do have a love/hate relationship with my AW :)

Got me all excited there! Isn't this another desktop release that will need a modded ini for M chips?

Edit: The Rev's already posted before me so got it :)

I'm getting an issue when installing the 301.42 driver that says it can't find compatible hardware - any idea where to find the necessary inf files to fix it?

Oh! Sorry, forgot to include that... I'm one of those poor people with the nVidia GeForce 260M and 9400 cards (although I'm 90% sure that I have the 9400 card/SLI turned off) - I have no idea why Alienware made it so we have to use their drivers for updates if we don't want to mess with tweaked INF files, but it's annoying. If it matters, I'm currently using Windows 7 64-bit.

I've been using the 301.42 drivers all today, and have not had an issue with gaming, throttling, overheating, or anything like that.

I did however, receive a TDR error (which I never get using the 296.10 drivers) when a youtube flash player became unresponsive in Opera... the screen blinked, then I got a message about the graphics driver recovering.

    The error is as follows:

EDIT: I have also found that these 300x drivers, much like the beta ones, seem to have trouble initializing the nvidia GPU. Frequently I'll tell games/apps to use the nvidia card, but they can't or won't. I had to reboot my laptop to get Dead Island to recognize the GPU... and when I tried to run a heaven unigine test for stability, it refused to detect the nvidia GPU either (despite me having whitelisted it)

and before people start telling me to do a "clean install" - that's what I do for every driver installation. I remove all nvidia drivers completely with driver sweeper in safe mode, then install. These 300x drivers are just too much of a hassle on my M17x R3 ... I will be reverting to 296.10 probably indefinitely, since nvidia doesn't seem to be able to make stable 300x drivers for my M17x.

Sorry to chip in with a pc newb question...but currently I have 286.62 nvidia drivers(physx,3d,graphics driver, and update 1.5.20), is it a good choice to update to this latest 301.42? And it seems the newest one may have problem(suggested by darkdomino), so maybe update to Verde 296.10 Driver WHQL?

Thus far my current driver doesn't seem to cause any problem, but if the latest driver can improve gaming performence, that's a green light. Advice?

So far I haven't had any issues with the newest driver. I've been fortunate and haven't had any issues with the beta ones either. I have the IGP disabled through the modded bios, so I've never had an issue with programs. It recognizing my 580m. I was having issues before when the IGP was enabled.

I haven't noticed anything different with these drivers, but I haven't had much time to check them out. Hopefully after work I'll get some time to play.

Try with Dispaly.Driver copy and paste or crzychinook could edit this one with the nvwi 296.10 WQHL starting from:

    [nv_HDAudioInstall]
    HKLM,"Software\NVIDIA Corporation\Installer",HDAudioInstall,%REG_DWORD%,1

    [Strings]
DiskID1 = "NVIDIA Windows Vista / Windows 7 (64 bit) Driver Library Installation Disk 1"
    NVIDIA = "NVIDIA"
    NVIDIA_A = "NVIDIA"

nope the inf file didnt work...

ok heres what ive done to date...

first i pm katalin.. cause hes help me in the past!!
and just so you know yes i am IT savy.. i do know what im doing

1st i tried those intructions.. i thought i had it.. wrong could not get it to work using those

2nd i tried said above inf file... nope

3rd... i remeber a few driver back hearing some saying soming about this web site...
NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com
and pulled a inf file from them.. and well i got it to work kinda...

after using driver sweeper and ccleaner and rebooting.. i installed the driver.. then replaced the nvwi.inf file and ran the setup.. reboot...
first thing i noticed.. in my right hand task bar i had my Nvida symbol but i was lacking my Hbyrid/Sli symbol .. then i went in to the Nvida control panel
frist thing i noticed is that it default my SLI disabled.. ?? ok then i turn it on..
then i looked under my multiple display that my 260's weren't showing... hmmm ok time to start playing around and see what else is screwed up..
i used my display port to DVI to my ext monitor.. nope that no longer works..so i go in to Bios and turn off my hybrid settings and my integrated settings and guess what ..now my 260's are showing but the 9400 isnt .. and it looks like the sli is still working.. i fire up a couple of high end games.. runs smooth.. so this is a work around for right now.. i hope katalin can help!! ive updated every time when a new whql come out and other than the inf ive never had ANY probs till now!!.. ill keep everyone posted once i get my hand on a proper inf file i guess..

I had the same problem and noticed that when I downloaded the driver the Display.Driver folder did not contain an nvwi.inf file. However it did contain a file called nv_disp.inf which seemed to contain similar information.

So before copying and pasting the nvwi.inf into the Display.Driver folder I renamed it nv_disp.inf and then pasted it into the Display.Driver folder, replacing the original.

I ran the install and it worked fine. All other steps as per the original post.

No idea why this worked btw!
