    Hi,

Well I have had my M17x for around 10 days now and am currently having a lot of buyers remorse.

    First of all, the issues:

    - Backspace key squeaks and it is loud.
    - Space bar works half the time. Makes it very hard to type anything. Seems to be the same with some other keys like the "D' key. Not sure what is up with this..
    - 6 key doesen't work unless I slam it down hard.
    - Screen is fuzzy/blurry almost like a crappy dollar store screen protector was slapped on it (don't think this is normal). It is only seen, if you are within 2 feet of it or if a light is shining down from above on it and you see it at the right angle. If you are 2 feet or farther away from the screen, it is not noticeable.
    - 1 HDD bay screw post stripped (my fault)
    - Rubberized palmrest has 2 very small metal spikes sticking up. Most likely metal from underneath that is raised through the rubber. Not that big of a deal, but I could see it wearing down easily around this area in the future, because of this.
    - Screen creaks when I open it, because the top part doesen't seem to be fitting tight enough.
    - Top part of screen above webcam moves in and out a bit, because it is not fitted to great inside there and that is what is making the noise whenever I open the screen.
    - Just found a dead pixel in lower right of screen. This one is almost like rainbow colored. EDIT: Brother found another..
    - Screen flickers on lower right near dead pixel. It is hard to tell, but can be barely seen when it is dark around the laptop.
    - Screen hits keyboard...nothing new, everyone else has this. Don't think Dell cares either.

Everything else is perfect, but the keyboard and screen area bother me the most. Mainly the keyboard, because it seems to skip key presses and the screen, because it is blurry (and now a dead pixel).

My question is what are my options with this laptop and what would you do?

Is it still possible to return it and order a new one without restocking fee? That would be awesome, because I would like to get the 1080p screen upgrade and the new 6990m. Is it possible to have a tech come out to fix it? Although I really don't want a new laptop ripped apart and I don't want a refurbished one. Or am I just overreacting and am stuck with these (small?) problems?

    Thanks in advance,
    Nate

Probably yes, if you tell them your problem. I once had a DOA M15x (2 years ago), and I needed to pay restocking fee because Dell are really sticky here in Sweden. In USA, you probably do not need to pay the fee

Yes, if you want them to.

Not at all, those problems are pretty serious.

    there are a few options
    1- return it
    2- ask for a replacement
3- call dell to fix it

i would go with either 1 or 2 since it a brand new unit. call customer support to ask for replacement or refund.
    tech support for repairs.

Return it/get replacment. There will be absolutly no stocking fee's if you go about it the right way. Ring them, tell them how dissapointed you are with it, make sure your clear on all the issues.

Im they refuse ask them to speak with the manager and just keep pushing.

Its an outrage that these machines get thru QC in that state.

Yeh, if I could get 1 without a restocking fee, I would jump on that right away.

Although, what is the best way to return it, without getting a restocking fee?

I do live in the US and am shooting them a longggggggg email now.

emails will get you no where, call up customer support and tell them you have all these issues and you don't want to keep a laptop that is not working right out of the box. refund/ replacement is up to you but don't waste time, waiting to responses from emails.

Those are pretty unacceptable problems, considering how much we pay extra for the name of these machines. Call them, and get a brand new one.

if you ask for a replacement, you can still use your existing laptop untill the new unit arrives. just incase you didn't know that.

This, but do not ask for a replacement, get a full refund and re-order by phone some other day.

Or if you play it right, tell tehm how inconvineiced your are and as an act of good will you want something upgraded otherwise you'll take your buissness elsewhere.

its worth a shot. Ive had a fair few vouchers and stuff just by asking for them.
