I've posted about this but got nowhere.

When I first got my m17x the fans would kick on really fast and VROOM when it would get hot, But now they just are steady at a slow speed.. When gaming the laptop gets very hot and my fans don't seem to notice the rise of temperature.

What could be the problem here? My gpu temps are going to 100c. But the fans are just sitting there spinning quietly not seeming to notice that the inside is burning up.

    Help? Thanks in advance.

I would first to start by blowing out all vents on the laptop with compressed air. If that doesn't work I would try reflashing your BIOS, or updating it if thats the case. You can get the new BIOS from Dells support and drivers website. Than if comfortable, disassembling the laptop I would try to reapply thermal paste. If that fails, or your not comfortable taking apart the laptop, I would call up dell tech support.

I did update the bios just today.

The fans still stay at same speed, Although during the flash of bios the fans sounded like they kicked in at 100%.

I'm not sure why they wont do this when the laptop is overheating.

When the laptop starts up, do they kick on 100% for just a second? They should as part of the BIOS post test. If not than I would get on the phone with dell. You may have some bad fans. Sometimes the BIOS needs to be reflashed, so I might try reflashing once again.

Pretty much any is good. Alot of people like MX-3, or ICD4, I think thats what it's called anyway. I tend to use Arctic Silver 5 because I just throw a big tube in when I order from newegg.com. Putting it on really isn't a big deal just put a little bit on the CPU die and spread it with a credit card across it. It's used as a meidum between the CPU die and the heat sink.
