    Hello,

I don't know why but my files(around 200gb of apps, files, music) off my HDD (used as a storage drive) disappeared after windows update.

Yesterday my anti-virus (mcafee) found some virus and also my bnet account was apparently hacked.

Could these two thing be related? Could my HDD be failing or something?

This has never happened before so I am really unsure of what to do.

    Thank you,

A virus on your computer could very well be related to your bnet account being hacked.

I would find it very odd that a Windows Update or a virus would delete apps, files, or music. (Edit: unless this virus was trying to format your drive and got interrupted)

Have you tried software such as recuva to undelete these files? Perhaps they are recoverable.

Does your HDD free space show 200gb more that it did before? or are the files just missing?

The drive was almost emptied and went from around 1/3 full to almost empty. The only thing on that drive that was saved was a few folders with documents, and itunes. The main SDD drive was not touched.

    Should I just full reinstall?

I would reccommend using software to see if any of your files are recoverable. 200gb is a lot to replace. However, if you have a backup or just dont care about it, no big deal.

A full reinstall is always a good idea to ensure you are virus free. Especially if this could be related to someone stealing your bnet account.

In the case that you take the recommendation of reinstalling the O.S, here is how.
