hello fellas ...yet another sad story ... i was having an alienware 17 r1 which used to work fine till its GPU ( GTX 780M ) died ... My cousing was having shutdown issue with his 17 r1 so he asked me check if thats the issue with his GTX 880M which he was using in it ...so i installed a 880m inside my laptopand it worked perfectly .. later i returned him back ... then today .. i went to a shop and he was having GTX 765M which was pulled from ALIENWARE as well according to him .. i installed it and laptop didnt gave any display at all nor any beeps...As he was not having any other GPU so i came back home and asked my cousin for 880M which he unfortunately sold a week ago ... so i installed a friend's GTX 860M which was pulled from my laptop by myself and given to him .. plugged it and got 5 beeps...turned it off and turned it back on started giving me 8 BEEPS... i dont know whats the issue and whats happening with this laptop now .. i tried CMOS reset but same thing happened : at 1st power up it gives 5 beeps and later it give 8 beeps until i reset the CMOS again .. AS my alienware is having 120HZ screen i thought my LCD would have failed so i tried plugging my LCD along with its cable to my friend's M17XR4 thinking that as long as the cable is plugging in the motherboard fine it would give display or atleast show that the LCD is fine... but no luck ,. his laptop started giving 8 beeps ... i removed it and installed his 60HZ screen into my laptop along with his own LVDS cable..but same issue ...8 beeps.... now i am totally blank that what could be the issue ? that 860M works totally fine on M17XR4 but gives 8 beeps on my laptop.. has anyone of you have gone through this ? if yes then please share your experience or the fix for it ...thank you

You could try the RAM trick, somewhere here in the forums.

5 beeps just after BIOS reset is normal behaviour.

You could remove all RAM and Battery, and just connect power brick. Power on and quickly put 1 RAM stick in. That seemed to help with AW 17 issues.

UPDATE 1: TRIED Doing CMOS RESET and swapping SINGLE DDR3L RAM no LUCK ...5 beeps at first start after CMOS RESET and then 8 beeps again n again n again :( ...
UPDATE 2: Tried using the UNBRICK METHOD explained by @Mr. Fox mentioned here : http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-18-bios-a07.751794/page-4#post9646431
    NO LUCK AT ALL...
I CAN 10000 % ASSURE that the GPU IS TOTALLY FINE AND WORKS PERFECTLY IN M17X R4 EVEN WHEN BENCHMARKED...

8 beeps is usually the LCD or the GPU. Since you said GPU is fine , The LCD is brick.

Keep in mind that 880M requires the 120hz LCD.

You're swapping parts that arent exactly interchangeable.

You need to get a handle on your known variables and go from there. Thats the process in any troubleshooting, anything thats supposedly, used to, (etc) work in other laptops doesnt mean it will work in your laptop that is of a different model and spec.

its very hard to find LVDS cable that comes with this laptop specially in my country .. so i had no other choice rather than just plugging the lcd of m17x r4 in my laptop

The GPU's you can use are largely the same in both laptops. The LCDs and the cables to connect them is an unknown variable.

If you disconnect the display cable from the motherboard you can then boot the system with a HDMI monitor connected. (This is something you could try if you suspect a bad display)

tried this method long time ago before this issue but no luck ...well the seller has diagnosed some IC's failure issues below the MXM port section and unfortunately he is not having those ICs atm.. if he cannot find within a week, i might end up buying from ALIEXPRESS
