I budget is around $1800~1900, so i only change the video card to 6990M and would probably get a one year accident-included warranty. since i will buy from a rep so if i'm lucky enough to get a extra discount i would be hesitated between upgrading the 2630 to 2720 or get the 1080p screen.......

Which one would you choose since i've seen someone's not so satisfied with the 900p. :)

ps: i don't often watch movies on my laptop and don't even care if it's in blueray or not...

Hmm, go with the Screen. The 2630 is more then adequate for gaming. But since your getting the 6990 you'll want that full HD scrren to show your games off!!!!

Also, adding RAM aftermarket will save some money as does HDD's and SDD's :)

The screen is one of the most important parts of the laptop.
    1080p > 2720qm

Don't prioritize a tiny unnoticeable performance gain over screen resolution. That is perhaps the worst thing you can do when buying a laptop.

The 2720QM won't make any difference, but the 1080p screen makes a world of difference.

I wouldn't even suggest buying the laptop until you get the screen upgrade secured. The screen and the GPU are the two important things for the M17x R3.

Okay chennaxin, I too am a student, going to be a freshman in the fall. I called and got the Hot summer savings deal. You just need to keep calling until a rep gives it to you. I was able to get the setup in my sig for $1722. Right in your budget and with the upgrades you want. You need to have an epp account setup with your student email and all of that when you call though. Just keep trying until a rep gives you the 25% off. I would recommend doing it soon though.

No, the best I got was the 2% epp plus the 25% for the hot summer savings. The deal ends July 29th. So early august would unfortunately be too late. They won't let you add on any coupons either if you get the 25% off. Definitely try to order before the 29th to get the 25% off deal, I have been looking to buy an alienware for the past 5 months and this is the best deal out of any that have happened in that time frame.
