I was about to order my m17x R4 today November 11 2012...but my friend said that there will be a new design and model coming out very soon..that I don't care that much bc I love the design specs of this model..I was quoted 1465 total for everything..it is stock as I will be doing the mods..my major concern is that being so close to the holiday months and Black Friday is that the price will drop significantly very soon..any1 that could offer me some insight and answers ill greatly appreciate it and send iTunes gift cards to the ones that answer my questions in detail..thanks guys..happy gaming..G-D BLESS

Alienware/Dell in general is a very big company; one of the biggest laptop/PC manufactures in the world. Their black friday deals will be awesome, and they always have been. If I were you I would definitely wait and see what the sales are because they're usually crazy. the M11X was being sold for $599 stock last year on BF :)

Thanks for the quick reply...yea that's what I was worried about...do you know if they dropped prices on all of there lines..and also if you can tell me if you think the actually design exterior will be completely changed or go through a major overhaul soon.. And lastly the quote that I got by haggling some women who at first said they was no room for improvement was $1460 total to be shipped..is that a good price in your opinion..thanks agian and I was serious about the iTunes gift cards ;)

Nobody around here really knows the answer to if they'll be design changes. But the m17x really doesn't have any design flaws so I doubt it. And no that isn't a good price. People have gotten 20% off before. I would try again and talk to someone else, if they give you a bad price too just hang up and keep trying lol.
I promise there will be a sale on all alienwares, just hang tight man it'll be worth it :p

At a bare minimum get the 1080p screen. Not an upgrade you want to do later

get the best screen and graphics card you can possibly get. It will save you a bunch of money in the long run. As to a design change, I don't see a change coming till the next gen (Intel haswell, Nvidia 700 series, and the AMD 8000 series) stuff is released. I'd be guessing maybe a may-june release date, but it's pretty open ended right now.

This. There's no reason to change the design until the new architecture comes out.

Exactly what I was thinking. Each revision coincided with the newest Intel CPU architecture release. The Haswell CPU & Chipset is not due out until Spring/Summer 2013. As much as everyone hope, I just don't see Alienware releasing the new R5 models without the Haswell architecture.

is there anyway you can save up for a system with a 7970m gpu and a 1080p screen? Just curious as the 7970m is a beast of a card and the 1080p is way more vibrant and a quality better panel than the 900p stock one.

well your not gonna be able to get specific parts like a 1080p screen or the 7970m from a place like newegg. That's why I advice buying both the GPU and screen first, and then going from there. If you don't have the money, I completely understand as my rig started from stock, but I paid a lot of extra money to have what I have now. :(

Well if your willing to wait I would wait and see what black friday and cyber monday bring. I'm sure there will be at least some sort of sale. ;)
as to my machine,it is nothing compared to what some of the folks have modded up here. I need a new GPU and extreme processor to hang with the big boys. :p

Don't worry about the gift card. As long as you enjoy the computer and I steered you right, it's good enough for me.

Buy the best warranty you can reasonably afford, but your probably better off just sticking the standard warranty and upgrading the GPU. ;)

Alienwares aren't really...reliable. so yeah you should buy the extra warranty. however you can always buy more warranty at another point in time, not just when you buy the laptop.
