    Hey all,

After months and months of deliberation and swinging between the m17x r2 and the r3, I have finally decided on the m17x r3 and would like some help with the configuration. This is what I am looking at:

i7- 2860qm (it is the highest possible here. other option is 2760qm for Rs 19000 less i.e. $413 less.) Which one should i choose?

8gb ram (it is the least possible here)

500 gb hybrid (ssd is Rs 25000 more i.e. $543 more) Which ssd do they use btw? Samsung 470? Somewhere i read it is a Lite-On ssd but can't recall where.
Also I read somewhere about hybrid drives having a lot of problems. Should I go with 750gb and add a ssd myself? Or hybrid and then add ssd myself.
Feel like tearing my hair out

    Killer Wifi

580m gpu with 120hz screen. I don't plan to game much in 3d or watch 3d movies but it is the only option available. Though i can finally catch HP7 deathly hallows 2 in 3d :D

    3 years complete care.

The total cost for system stated above is Rs 1,74,000 ($3782)

Oh, and Red or Black? Sometimes I like red sometimes black. Like a pendulum I am.

So what do you all think and what are your suggestions?

I am at home and want to finalize everything and make payment by Wednesday at the latest.

Also, are there any known issues I should be aware of? I know of the audio popping problem and will also follow batboy's thread about which driver to install in which order. The chipset problem (intel recalled some chipsets) shouldn't be of any concern right? That was quite long ago and I expect AW not to ship faulty chipsets but still how can I make out if my chipset is faulty or not?

Oh and which accessories :D . But that will be in another thread or a post lower down.

If it's just for gaming then 2630.
For other stuff like encoding, I'd suggest upgrading to 2720.
For benchmarks, default 2630. Then buy an extreme proc.

8gb is fine. 16gb is probably overkill if you don't do virtual desktops.

I usually get the least option for HD.
Then I replace it with my externally-purchased stuff.

3 years complete care, I agree with this.
I had to spend double just to have it extended months after I purchased the unit.

I like red as well but almost all my accessories are black so I had to match it.

GPU, I envy you. Coz I still have the old option, 6970m.

Audio popping? I don't think I have this.
But there's a thread about the speakers malfunctioning after using a port or something. Be sure to test that out.

    Accessories!
I have Razer Naga Epic and cheap IEMs.
Still waiting for Tiamat; I really have high hopes for that headset.
If it disappoints, I'll pick up ATH-AD700 or Steelseries V2.

    Thanks a lot eleven! +rep

I like 2860 because it even beats 2920xm!! That is why I was leaning towards the 2860. No option for the 2630qm here or I would indeed get it and upgrade to 2960xm.

Any other views? Esp. on the 2860 vs 2760?

I guess, I will place the order within 24hours :)
My first AW. Here I come!!

By your price, I am not slightly overpaying, but being ripped off  . Save me!!

The only diff between your sig and mine is that instead of your 2720qm, I have 2860qm and I am paying Rs 45,000 more ($1000 more)!!

    (Rs45 = $1 approx)

If you don't so any intensive programming, encoding or procesing, then you won't benefit from spending that much money on a higher processor at all. There will be a small unnoticeable increase in performance in games. Save that money and get an SSD, not from Dell though, aftermarket.

Thanks widezu69! Will take that into account. Probably go with 2760qm and buy ssd as you said.
