Might be able to assist with a little more information. I don't have a copy of that particular .rom file but I do have the utility and instructions on how to apply a different one.

    What is the problem?

Why do you need to revert?

    Model?

    120hz display?

    ;)

I wanna revert back because the fps drop for A1 due to lower clock rate.

Right, you are suffering from a known issue. It is called a power throttle and is a real pain on the 580. The fix is a vbios file that matches the 3d clock and the 2d clock. You will need to ask for this either here or on techinferno forums. I attach the files needed and instruction but DO NOT use the .rom file it is for a 675m and it will cause more problems.

So you need to do it again. You have reverted the vbios. Simples ;)

Edit: Just some friendly advice to get the best out of user supported forum advice; Questions asked are simply asked to make sure you do not bad advice. Please in future, always quote model and some hardware details if you know them ;)

Thx for help. I am kinda new with this hardware and software thingy, i just follow step by step guide so sometimes i don't even know what i am doing. Haha. Thx for help.

    result.png

Both P0 and P1 shows 1500/1240 but my FPS is still dropping like mad suddenly but the max temp is only 67-68.

    Any reason why?

Now it gets a little harder. Your screenshot is perfect and shows you did the vbios update correctly

Now you need to monitor just what is going on while you game. To do this you need to get msiafterburner. Don't use this for overclocking as it only works with P0, nvudiainspector is for that (the overclocking button).

Once you have afterburner loaded you need to setup the On-Screen-Display so you see what is going on during gaming.

    afterburner1.JPG

minimise afterburner and game looking at the clock speed and voltage when the frame rate drops. You might have something else going on with windows in the background that is causing it but I'm not going to be a lot of help there :(

Let me know the numbers and if I have an idea I'll let you know ;)

    Sure NP :D
You should have enough posts now to set up your own sig file. If you can put in the same sort of info as mine it will help me to keep track of the machine I am assisting with ;)

Ok i updated my SIG. I try to analysed the MSI afterburner result but i don't see a drop in the clock when the fps drop. I try to format my computer but when i try to update to the newest nvidia driver it just cant update, is it because i have changed the p0 n p1 speed?

    Sig not on? Oh well,

That you do not see any clock drop when the FPS drops indicates that it is probably something in windows and a reinstall is the easiest way.
What error do you get with the driver? The change to the vbios (P0+P1) will not affect a driver install. Also try the driver dell publish first @ support.dell.com and get to the alienware M17x R3 drivers page. It is always best to start with the dell drivers after a fresh install before updating them.

look in device manager (just type this in on the start menu) and tell me what it says under Display adaptors.

You could try a factory restore. I haven't done it in some time but it is on a hidden partition that you access through the windows repair options - boot from the win CD with F12 and try to find it there.

Oh, one other thing, I don't have switchable graphics so I'm guessing here but have you tried Fn-F7 followed by a reboot? Not sure of the sequence but this switches the GPU's around in some way.

General rule is that if you have 8gb memory and are not running multiple stuff concurrently loose it. Don't know what you save or any overhead it releases

The page file eats a portion of your SSD matching the page file allocation.

This removes some free space from the SSD which it could be using to help lengthen its life span.

What you can also do (and what I did on my r3) is reduce the pagefile on your SSD to ~500MB, and create a pagefile equal to your RAM on your HDD. Of course, with 20GB of RAM I wasn't paging all that much... But I'd rather have the space there for when I accidentally code a really huge memory leak D:

Don't you get greater performance by having your page file on an SSD? Afterall, page file access is often based around small files, and repsonse time is important. On top of that SSD life issues are really a moot point for most users, I've only used 2% of my SSD life over a period of just over a year, so my SSD will last 50yrs! MickyD had some good advice about disabling page file at 8GB and above, that's what I do and I've never had any problems with that. If you've got a small SSD it saves on space too.

EDIT: I can see why you might want a page file given what you said about your memory leak and coding. Even though I know nothing about coding!

The 580 was infamous for throttling issues. I had one and this 675 is basically the same card with a different vBIOS.

Search out 580 throttling after checking this is the problem.

Load up msiafterburner and set the on-screen display to show clock and voltage. Game. If you see the clock drop to 415 (and voltage drop) then it could have heating issues or power. I got a vbios that matches the 2d/3d clocks at the stock 620 so when it cut in nothing happened. Only downside is that there is also a voltage drop so you need a vbios rather than just using nvidiainspector to overclock P1 to match P0.
    Have you ever repasted it?

I did the vbios to match P1 and P0 but there would be random fps drop still.

How do i osd the voltage? GPU usage?

And i nvr repasted it as the temp is at 66-68 when gaming. When the FPS drop I don't think is it because of high temp hence it might be to do with the voltage?

Temp does sound fine. Msiafterburner has a monitoring tab where you select in osd. Just noticed that evga precision (which uses the same components) has the voltage and afterburner does not, but if you have already flashed a matched vbios then there should be no voltage drop.

Which driver are you using? A lot of people are reporting random FPS drops on the latest ones over in the NV forums.
