I've been trying to install the [AIO] AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview (8.901.0) drivers for my m17x, but I have had no luck doing it. Is there something that I need to do to get them to work because after I install it I don't get working drivers.

I've never tried using modded drivers before, but I would really like to try these out for BF3 beta.

I know. That's the exact one I am trying to use, but I can't get the video drivers to work.

Do a clean install of the most recent Dell drivers (you don't specify which card you have, so can't point to the applicable set) after removing all existing ATI/AMD drivers through Control Panel, then Device Manager (if required), followed by Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode and registry cleanup with CCleaner or equivalent. Then install the mobility modded Cat 11.10 Preview drivers in the normal way, except choose Custom Install, and select all drivers and apps except Catalyst Control Center. This will give you all 11.10 drivers but will leave the default Dell CCC in place to permit switchable graphics. All you lose by foregoing the 11.10 version of CCC is prettier internal graphics and some slightly revised menus; there are no functional differences. Ordinarily, this approach will avoid the BSOD's, unsigned/unapproved driver issues and other problems.

I've installed the mobility drivers with all options (including CCC) for both 11.8 and 11.9 and switchable graphics still work for me.

My CCC version displays as 2011.0908.1355.23115 and my driver is 8.892.0.0.

I've done that too, but it doesn't work for everyone, particularly with unsigned beta drivers. This is one workaround for people for whom the basic "install over" process doesn't work or that just want the new 11.10 drivers for the Battlefield 3 beta release with a minimum of driver installation hassle. If installation of the entire 11.10 Preview package works for you, then that's the way to go.

That's what i used to do on my m17XR3 (6970m) until 11.10 preview was released. Now after the clean install of the most recent Dell drivers, i get a BSOD when i install 11.10 preview over them, with or without checking CCC.

After this BSOD, i can see in my CCC that the 11.10 are installed, but the installation process didn't success ...

So if i want a "clean" install, i'm stuck with the 11.9, and i can't fully enjoy BF3.

    Ah, ok.

I have a pretty strict policy of not ever using any "beta" or RC drivers, so I never experienced that issue. The 11.8 and 11.9 versions I have used were the official certified versions.

As for 11.10 and BF3, I'm assuming they will be released officially prior to the game being released.

That said, 11.9 is a little faster across the board for me than 11.8. I do just fine in the BF3 beta with nearly everything on ultra with a moderate GPU overclock.

Not sure I understand this. If you can see that 11.10 drivers are installed in CCC, then they ought to be installed. Which version of CCC are you looking at? Which driver is shown for the 6970M in Device Manager? Which driver is shown in GPU-Z? Don't let a little BSOD throw you off.

I tried many times and each time the process ended the same way. When I install the 11.10 preview over the most recent Dell drivers, i always get a BSOD after authorizing the installation of the not WHQL driver (with or without checking CCC), so the computer always reboot before i am asking to restart.

After the reboot, when I check the CCC / Device Manager / GPU-Z, i can see that 11.10 are installed / detect, but the process didn't sucess, so maybe something is missing.

I'm not looking at a particular version of the CCC, I just want the best driver for the Beta of BF3, and even if I can play games in that case, I don't like BSOD, so I prefer 11.9, and i'll wait for the 11.10 release.

I still don't understand why I only get this BSOD with the 11.10 preview :/

LOL. Perhaps that would be best.
