Hello all, I'm have alittle problem, I currently have a 128gb SSD raid-0 setup but I need more room for all my games, apps, projects, ect.
My question is would keeping the raid setup and adding a 500gb momentus XT drive with enclosure using Esata be a good option or should I pull one of the SSD out and install the 500gb.
I really want to keep the OS speeds and esata seems to have enough bandwidth to be sufficient enough. Any advise would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks -yoko

eSATA is fast, yes. There is a caddy available that turns your optical drive into another HDD/SSD slot. Seems like Sager/Clevo and others have had three drive slots forever now. Hopefully the new Alienware product line starts doing the same.

Yeah that's the thing I love my blu-ray burner. So a caddy is out of the question lol. But would the best route.

E-sata option is fine, I use one for backup and it is plenty fast for such use.
Later of course upgrading to larger internal drives is an option as well. -
how often do you use the optical drive have you thought about making the optical drive external and fitting a 1tb or 640gb HD in the optical slot.

Edit: Just realized turbodtalon recommended that and i would second that!! -
Actually i wouldnt mind But i do watch alot blu-rays and I also burn alot of images for clients, my only problem Is woldnt the read/write times be slowed when runninh the drive externally through USB?
-
I need to do this as I barely use my DVD drive. Thanks for the info as I totally had forgotten about it.
-
I also barely use my disc drive - even when reinstalling I use a USB stick. The thought of having an SSD and potentially many terabytes of storage space is exceedingly appealing

the E-sata drives can be had in a small 2.5 inch enclosure, and would be easier to carry around.
Many (like myself) use a SSD drive to boot, and a regular hard drive as a data drive in the second internal position. and you can easiy get a 750 GB drive in this laptop now days -
