Hello guys.!

I am a bit curious with my lappy..
Currently i hve been OC-ing my alienware m17x r3..
and using graphic card stated above..

i have adjusted a bit the core,shader and memory clock.it seems nice since i got additional 10fps.. but the problem is my temp.. it can only reach until 78 celcius. once at 78, it becomes laggy and return to 61 celcius..

I am planning to use cooling fan to cooldown my laptop..coz when i lifted up my laptop, the temp is constant..but when i put on my table, it increased.. =.=

does any1 have the same problem??? max temp only 78 celcius??? p/s, i check my temp using FurMark for OC-ing.. any idea guys? much much appreciated

Hi, I also recently got a R3 and found the following useful when attemting overclocking:
The 580M has 4 clock settings and the chip will use a different clock depending on temperature and load (called throttling). they are referred to as P0, P1, P8, and P12. P0 and P1 are all you need to be working with P0 being the fastest.
I had a lot of problems with P1 kicking in at 'normal' settings in farcry 2 until I applied the latest BIOS on the dell site.
Afterburner will only overclock P0 but I use it for the on-screen monitoring so I can see when P1 is applied (clock drops), and temperature.
Nvidia Inspector is the only program I have found that can work with ALL the different clock states, and you can create shortcuts (and put them in startup) to apply automatically at startup.
The only game I have used so far that applies the throttling is Bioshock 2. This game steps down to P1 when the menus are active and steps back up in-game - cool! Currently running 675/725 at 65 degrees without issue and all options cranked up.
PS, If you get problems with some games crashing/blue screen/'NV... has stopped responding', force DX9 as this is related to hardware access in DX10/11 (very long story but basically Nvidia and MS are pointing at each other and we the punters are are suffering, looks to me like it's M$ since ATI users also get this problem.)

afi, there is no need to create post after post about this. I and Mick have already told you...You are throttling.
