    Need quick answer on M17X R3 RAM question!

    Hey everyone,

    Based on what I have been hearing, the 4GB kit that has 2 DIMMS comes with a motherboard with only 2 DIMM slots and the 8GB and 16GB kits come with a motherboard that has 4 DIMMS? Is that true?

    Also does anyone know the manufacturer of the stock RAM?

    I've only seen one or two posts that say some r3's only come with 2 dimms if you ordered the 4gb. Thus far however, no hard evidence has been provided that would confirm that statement. I know that the XPS 17's at some point came with 2 or 4 dimm slots depending on configuration.

    I have checked the CA, US & EU Dell sites and it shows pretty clearly that through ordering 8gb or more you get 4dimms. Seems below is only 2dimms, but I am not sure about the motherboards 100%. This is merely my observation.

    I thought the motherboards would be the same regardless. That wouldn't make any sense...
    I ordered my M17x R3 with 4GB of ram, with the intention to upgrade to 16GB. I do a lot of 3D modeling, Photoshop, and video editing, and the more RAM the better.

    Somebody with a 4GB stock RAM configuration needs to confirm that they have the 2 additional slots under the keyboard....

    Talking to my rep it seems that there are 4 DIMMs regardless, once he confirmed it with an coworker that knew.

    Ordered my R3 with only 4gb-2 DIMM. The motherboard has 4 DIMM slots regardless of the memory configuration u order. Just be prepared to do a little extra work to get to the second pair of slots. They are under the keyboard.

    Took me about 15 minutes to get the thing apart and get to the 2 extra ram slots and change the wireless card. If you go this route, take the proper precautions! Something in the case sliced right through my thumb!

    M17Xr3 was out in jan... every user got one with 4 slots, we have never heard of a story with someone with only 2 slots other than fake rumors
