I'm wondering if it's a dell store 'bitsa'? I have seen some strange configs on the outlet store, and I do know they never supply the NV glasses if you buy a refurb.

Maybe a call asking them to check as you are worried it is stolen?

Because it’s Dell. And service tag could be screwed by ****y outsourced Dell tech when he swapped MB.
    The 860m heatsink can’t cool 780m.

might be a refurb version then ...
that could be it .. but who knows :/ even if the motherboard is swapped .. it shouldn't get the service tag of a xps 17 laptop o_O ...too much confusion :p i better stick to my m17x r4 :p

New MB don’t contain Service Tag. Will be put in by the technician. Same problem will happen both in Dell’s repair center and home support.
Mind you... Not the first time Dell’s useless incompetent tech screw up. How many Aw 17 Jokebooks have you seen with Aw 15 info? Have seen a lot.

Edit. Op should ask the mod to change thread title name. People jump in with wrong info. They can’t see the difference between AW17 and AW 17R2.

At least, you shouldn’t expect the dreaded 700MHz clocks from the Aw17R2 Jokebook’s :D Good Luck, Sir

I love the 120hz screen on the R1, that said the m17x R4 can equip one as well.

Its hard to justify the switch unless your planning to sell the old one and your just looking for increased baseline with LOTS of fine tuning.

CPU fans can be upgraded but due to fan tables its essentially the same as the old fans unless you splice the PWM wire into a switch. You can also upgrade the heatsinks with a 5 heatpipe GPU heatsink and 4 heatpipe CPU heatsink via ebay.

Can upgrade to the Eurocom, MSI, or Zotac 1070's. I think the Eurocom is the only plug and play solution as the MSI requires modding and the Zotac I think needs to the flashed with the MSI vBIOS. So far the 1080 has been unsuccessful for 3D applications.

Its a nice laptop but you have to do a lot of fine tuning to get your optimal performance.

I like the keyboard more on the AW17 R1 as its closer to the m4600 I used before it.

    Just my .02

doesn't have to mean anything, my clevp P157SM was bought in 2013, never broke, never went to repair or anything. Still standing, same goes for my old R4, never broke even once, chances are the Alienware 17 R1 never broke either.

Im actually got a few ideas for mods on this thing.

Extending the exhaust grill to make it uniform across the back, reducing 66% of the battery to insert another HDD or SSD, installing a 5TB 15mm drive in the optical bay. 6-7 heatpipes in the CPU or GPU (or both) heatsinks.

All things I could probably never do on the later versions
