I assume that Dell will have better support in the US and elsewhere.

I used the ASUS G750. It's not flimsy, but the lid, palmrest, and keyboard had more flex than I had expected, and the internal support structure is not rigid enough to compensate for that flex. My AW m17x r4 seems better-built, and I assume that the Alienware 17 is sturdier than both. The ASUS should have similar or better stock cooling than the 17, but maintaining and upgrading the AW's cooling is much easier. The AW's LG screen is better than the grainy Chi Mei screen ASUS uses for the G750.

By "better," I mean that the screen has more accurate colors and is not as grainy.

The AW is much easier to upgrade--the ASUS's CPU is soldered, and I think that its GPU uses a proprietary MXM socket. Cheaper, not so much, but people in the US get good discounts on AWs.

You could try contacting the sales personnel via chat and ask them for any kind of deals that they may have.

I am also looking at buying an alienware 17 and am having trouble deciding on the right video card for me. My choices are the 860m, 770m and the m290x. I know about the 880m but that tacks on an amount of money I don't think I want to spend. This is the first gaming laptop I have ever bought so the more detailed answers I can get the better. I don't plan on playing any really demanding fps titles or anything as intense as crysis but I still want to be able to play other popular titles (dishonored, tomb raider, bioshock, etc.) at medium or higher settings.

Please let me know what you think.
