I just installed my new 680m into my m17x r4, its running great plays games like a champ. But coming from the 660m i noticed a slight increase in both load and idle temps. I know this is to be expected from a card that is more than 2x the performance of the 660. But is 52-54 C idle and 65-67 C under load to high? Im using MX-4 thermal compound. Thanks.

That's normal, I use IC diamond, it is at 51 on idle and 65 on full load. I also use a Cooler Master Storm cooling pad, it drops down to 40 on idle and 60 on full load. Using cooling pad is highly recomended

Thanks for the reply, i have been considering getting a cooling pad for a while, but i like the way the m17x keyboard is so i dont want to have to use an external keyboard for it. anyone know of any slim cooling pads that provide good performance or will i have to get a keyboard?

You can use HWinfo to customize the internal fan speed. I set it to always run @ 2400rpm. My temps drops to 35C at idle. The downside is the internal fans get wear out faster but I wouldn't mind buying new fans knowing my machine runs this cool :D.

Idling at around 40-50 here with stock pads/paste and maxes at 70 under load playing games. Sounds fine, depends on your environment such as ambient temp, etc. Shouldn't be worrying unless it starts throttling I guess.

That's actually a pretty good temperature under heavy load :) You should be proud of your lappy :)
