So im looking to up grade my m17x r3 within a year but im not exactly sure what i should bother buying and what would be a waste of cash, i would like to upgrade my gpu since its just getting by. here are the specs:

    Alienware m17x R3

    i7 2720
    8GB Ram
    2x 320 HD in Raid 0
    GTX 460m (non 3d)
    Windows 7 (Home)
    Blu-ray reader

and nothing is overclocked, i feel like the biggest help would probably be the gpu and better hard drives in terms of performance for both gaming and just every day computing. also it would help if you know what the estimate price for anything yu suggest since i would like to start to put money away for these upgrade thanks!

I'd upgrade your GPU and upgrade your harddrives with a SSD, the rest of your computer looks fine

any recommendations on the GPU? like would it be worth spending all the money on the GTX 580m or waiting for it to drop after the 600 series comes out?

With the 6xx series around the corner, i'd definitely wait. Even if you get the 580m, the price will be much more reasonable when the 6's come out

Current price for a 580m is around $600-700 which imo is still too high

    OR

Assuming you don't have a 120hz screen, you could get a 6990m. I've seen them as low as $400

i dont have a 120hz screen since im not a 3d type of person, but i will wait for the 6xx series to come out and see about the price on the 580m, if not i will be going for the 6990m since that sounds pretty cheap for a high end mobile gpu. thanks for the help
