    Hello everyone,

I decided to tinker with my laptop to find out why it was constantly over heating, and I decided to repaste the GPU/CPU. However, I messed up when it came to placing the ribbons back and now I believe I need to buy replacement ribbons. Here's a picture of the 2 ribbons that are damaged:

Can you please help me identify them and send me links or something so that I can order new ones?
    Thanks in advance

Why did you pull the ribbon cables to repaste? That was not necessary..... How did you take a giant chunk of it out? Are there any dell part numbers on it?

I googled the numbers that I can see but came up with a motherboard and no ribbon cables....That is the keyboard ribbon cable yes?

I don't see the damage on the second one...the first one is most def fked....

Try phoning Alienware, they might sell you new ones and their cables can actually be pretty reasonably priced. Other option is to go online and see if you can order a new keyboard and check to see if that comes with the cables.

My main concern at this point is where is the rest of that ribbon cable? Is it shoved in the connector? That could be a problem when you go to install a new cable.

yeah, I screwed up, the second one is small error but it's the one that connects the card reader to the status light and after that got damaged, the laptop no longer turns on. The first one is fried from a while ago and laptop still functioned fine, but now I feel I should replace it. the remaining parts of the cable is pretty much soldered in but I'll see if that affects the connection. I'll contact dell for the parts like you suggested and thank you.

That big ribbon comes from the key board bezel to mobo , which is used for volume , cd eject ...etc functions .
Just type the laptop name and keep a space and type flex , then hit search in eBay , it would bring up this flex cable.
    Good luck

You may also find it as indicator cover cable.

How about the second one that connects the status light to the card reader? I accidentally bought the keyboard thinking that it would replace the whole palm rest, which was pretty disappointing considering that I waited 3 days for it. I'm considering just buying the whole palm rest to avoid further hassle, any suggestions?

Here are the two ports that the cables connect to. Can anyone help me find the replacement cables that connect to those as well as the port itself since they're somewhat damaged? (better safe than sorry) Or am I better off just buying a whole new palmrest from them? (assuming that it even includes the 2 cables)
